Show off your hand made fixed blades!!!

Post by Nifenoworky »

I'm no expert blacksmith or bladesmith by no means but I do like to piddle around with making some mystery metal fixed blades. Show yours off if you have a smidge of pride in your work.

Both very nice Bill! ::tu:: If those are examples of you just "piddling" around, I can't wait to see what you do when you get serious! ::nod:: Really like both knives, but the dagger is just special! Super nice work! 8)

The dagger was a small black diamond file. Stacked leather and copper sheet handle with aluminium guard and bolster. I epoxied the leather and copper then peened the rat tail tang inside a counter bore in the pommel, then shaped on the 1x30 harbor freight belt sander. O yeah I grind my blades on the cheapo 1x30 as well.... Really need a 2x72 😪. I made some neat sheaths for both of these but lost the pictures.

2nd was a large Nicholson file. Western red cedar and brass bolsters and pins. Let the blade etch/darken for a day in some orange juice to give it a darker color. made for my friends dad.

No matter what your methods are Bill, you have some serious build skills. Your modified Nicholson file reminds me of Hubertus's largest folding knife, although I can't spell or write it's proper name. Nice work! 8)

Sorry to reply so much later Bill, but I shut it down kindda early last night. That is a 10" oal Grand Way S 112 lockback/440C SS tanto blade with n/n and about 30% jimping on the spine, SS bolsters and liners, brass pins, and beautifully grained Walnut covers. Nice n' heavy at about 7 oz.'s, and factory sharpened. Bears Grand Way markings. My copy came from Germany via Ebay, and when it arrived I couldn't believe I'd only paid US$28.85/Free shipping, it feels like it's worth at least twice that much, and on the Grand Way website they're listed at US$11.90. Great knife for that price! 8)
