Help with strange FB

Post by edge213 »

The blade is stamped:
WABASH
CUTLERY CO
TERRE HAUTE
IND

The other side of the blade has an L inside of a C.

PAT. PD. stamped on both sides of the handles.

Aluminium handles. The blade edges have never been sharpened, the end of the blade is sharpened.
The previous owner stated he thought it was used to cut oil cloth.

Overall length 6 1/2 in.
Blade length 2 1/4 in.

Does anybody know about this style of FB or it's intended purpose?

Wabash was in operation from 1921 to 1935.
Not sure when drywall was first used.

That thing looks like the cable splicing knives that the power company fellers have on their belts. ::shrug::

Drywall was invented in 1916.

Could it be a shoe knife? - Used in shoe repair. Lots of similar knives for that purpose.

I believe it to be a chip carving knife.
I found one like it except it was a Keen Kutter.
Here is a picture from a KK catalog.

I agree with TREEFARMER about the splicing tool. I had a blue, rubber-covered handle, Remington in a thick, leather belt-sheath just like that. J.O'.
