Crown Stag Fans?

Post by 1967redrider »

I just picked up this Muela fixed blade in crown stag, which is the main reason why I wanted it. According to the ever popular knife show on t.v., stag is getting hard to find and import. 9 3/4" overall, 4 3/4" stainless blade, made in Spain like the good Hen & Roosters but not sure about Toledo? Nice weight, fit and finish in my opinion. Comes with a nice brown leather belt sheath too, but I doubt this knife sees any outdoor time.

Any other crown stag fans out there? I've even see a few crown stag folders. ::tu::

What aren't you sure about with regard to Toledo? I have heard or read that the city has a historical tradition of fine swords. Presumably they can make very good knives too. I must admit I haven't googled this it could all be BS.

BTW, that is a great grind on that knife!

No questions about Toledo and their steel, just not sure if Muela's are made there like Hen and Roosters are? ::shrug:: It just says, "Made in Spain," which is a pretty big country.

Thanks for the comments on my Muela Hunter. ::handshake::

Great knives everyone.

eveled,
Is the crown end of your knife painted black? If it is, why is it done that way, and does it rub off on your hands or clothing? Thanks.

It’s the way it came from Buck. It doesn’t seem to be paint and it doesn’t rub off. It does seem darker than it should be. When I look at redriders in the first post I kind of want to take mine to a belt sander.

How about some "faux crown stag"? Found this little letter opener awhile back.

Maybe they (Buck) dyed it that way? ::shrug::

This is probably my favorite crown stag I have.
Hess knives calls this the frontiersman. I've been told GEC makes the blades for them.
7" blade of 1095 and over 12" overall .
