Vojtech Destensky Custom Knife

Post by kootenay joe »

Here is a beautiful knife i just received from Vojtech Destensky in Czech Republic. Loveless Skinner design inspired.
I don't know what an original Bob Loveless knife feels like in hand but i know with this knife in hand you know it is the work of a Master.
7 3/4", 5.6 ounces(160 g.) and perfect balance, more perfect than i have ever felt.
Truly superb knife and sheath as well.

I love that top profile view. It's almost "sexy" looking.

It looks like he tapered the blade back to front as well.
It's a keeper! ::nod::

Yes, a "tapered tang", done to reduce weight of blade tang to get a neutral balance. This is what makes it feel so natural in hand you could forget it's there.

I am assuming that the handles are Buffalo horn? I say assuming because they look flawlessly clear.
I guess that is what makes a true master craftsman stand out.

Handles are Micarta, as are many original Loveless knives. Steel is D2. Super sharp edge and should stay this way after 1 or 2 deer as D2 is very wear resistant.

Micarta? I think of MIcarta as fuzzy, ugly, and Icky! :lol:

I didn't realize it could be polished. ::shrug::

kj, The lines on your knife are flawless. It defines for me that imponderable quality I call flow. A wonderful knife. Congratulations. ::ds::

::tu:: Very nice KJ, Loveless is probably the most copied knifemaker of recent history, along with Randall. Where did you come up with this beauty? I too have used paper based micarta for handles and it can be polished up like rock! Good stuff. ::handshake:: Terry

I check the various "For Sale" forums on BladeForums. Vojtech had posted this knife in the Knife Makers Fixed Blade forum. Something about it really caught my eye so it was an impulse buy which i am very pleased i did.
I find that i do not tire of knives that instantly spoke to me. Knives that i had to persuade myself to buy can loose their appeal after some months.
