I met the people that make these knives in Idaho falls several years ago and they are a well built "no frills" knife. They were using some good steel, 5160, 1095 in high carbon and 154cm and 440C in stainless . I never have owned one so I don't have any help there, but I don't think you will be disappointed. Terry
