Charlie, could you give some information on the bottom knife?

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
And some info about the large sword, looks like a two-handed. Manufacturer if possible Charles.
Re: Show off your fixed blades!
The bottom knife is a 12" hand forged carbon steel round tang Scottish dirk blade. Unfortunately I have no idea who forged the blade but it is high quality work. I did the handle and guard. I was thinking of Sting, the sword of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins from The Lord Of The Rings. I did this in 1991 long before the movies came out so I only had my imagination to work from. The handle material is ivory linen micarta, the guard and pommel are solid brass, and I tried my unskilled hand at scrimshaw on both sides of the handle. OAL is 18".

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
The sword is a hand and a half bastard sword made by Windlass Cutlery. The 34" hand forged carbon steel blade is double edged, double fullered, and surprisingly light. The sword has an OAL of 44", the handle is leather wrapped wood and the guard (9 1/2" across) and pommel are solid brass. It came with a wooden leather wrapped scabbard with brass throat and end cap. It is well made and quite usable (not a wall hanger by any means). The blade will bow to about 30 degrees and snap back true. It is from their "Museum Replica" collection. They find swords in museums and then reproduce them as accurately as possible. I purchased this one in the late '80s.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 1:00 pm And some info about the large sword, looks like a two-handed. Manufacturer if possible Charles.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Thank you for the input Charlie. I am familiar with Windless. They make good useable products. Your sword looks impressive. Taking a 30 degree bend impresses me a lot.

I first encountered Windlass when I was making knives for friends and relatives as a hobby and dealing with Atlanta Cutlery a lot.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 2:26 pm Thank you for the input Charlie. Here's a better look at my scrimshaw work, it turned out fair.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
I think that entire handle including the scrim is much better than fair. Impressive work Squatch.
Re: Show off your fixed blades!
I think fair is quite the understatement. Lovely work and impressive array of fixed blades.

And, having been a huge fan of Tolkien's work since 1979, I love your rendition of Sting!

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Thanks. I started reading Tolkien in 1967 and I've probably read the Hobbit and LOTR completely through at least 3 times over the years. Always seem to pick up something I missed or didn't pay much attention to the previous read. I'm the guy who points out everything they left out of the movies, drives my son crazy.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
I'm glad you like it!
It's supposed to be Smaug the dragon and the eye of Sauron. The other side is supposed to be a man of Numenor. If you're not familiar with Tolkien and Lord Of The Rings, that will make no sense to you.
