I would accept your recommendation "any day of the week" Jerry, one MTech sub-hilt comin' right up! I do believe your final statement should read, "It's a monster AND it's a fine, fine knife" instead of "but" as that word infers there's something wrong with it being a monster! 8)

My father carried this A.G. Russell "Sting" boot knife every day for many years (as well as his engraved S&W Model 60). It's far from "mint" but I love it.

Great photo and a great knife! ::tu:: I picked up any A.G. Russell "Sting" boot knife every chance I got over the years, ::paranoid:: if I could afford it or make a decent trade. I ended up with several and I have one just like this one. They were such a "cool" knife "back-in-the-day" ::hmm:: ... ::paranoid:: and maybe even now... ::paranoid::

Here is my father's Randall "survival" knife. He flew in the Korean War and was a Reservist after that for 40+ years, flying everything from Hueys to various small fixed wing aircraft that the US Army kept after the Air Force took over that role. He had this puppy strapped to his leg when he flew on Reserve weekends, I think at least from the 1980s. The other side of the blade has his name engraved in it.

Prober, besides being a Randall your blade holds all that history of your Father. What a great momento.

Here’s a fixed blade that I’ve used for years. Not a high dollar knife but it holds an edge like nobody’s business!!

The good looking wooden handle sets of your Mora. I think the design of the knife and sheath are very impressive.

Quick, ken and dog, thanks guys, I have always used this knife over others just because it fits my hand so well and holds a great edge.
The birch handle on this knife is almost like a slight birch burl!

Nice!

People these days seem to always ask quite high prices for the older Moras with laminated steel blades, especially if they are wood with metal pommels. I have a green-handled Eriksson Scout I think I bought for four or five bucks, and the steel on it sharpens easily . I made one minor mistake when trying to tighten up the loose handle, and slightly bent it. I know laminated blades are pretty flexible, but I don't know if it can be straightened or not. It's a really compact little knife.

I have fancier fixed blades, but the carbon steel Basic and stainless Companion do most of what I need. I've heavily used (and abused) both a Robust and wood chisel, and they've taken it well.

Thanks Cody, if the blade is laminated that would be the reasoning for why this knife will sharpen and hold an edge so good! The mora seems to be built pretty good and I really don’t know if you can straighten it without taking it apart and heating it then heat treating it again.

Thank you Dan! By the way, those temps you been reporting up in Mich. sound brutal. I lived in Merrillville IN. till 1981 and have not missed temps like those for sure! A lot of snow and wind off those Great Lakes.

From the archives. For those who frequently did a lot of serious cutting over prolonged periods, such as dockyard workers, the knives of Phil Hartsfield were in high demand. So to, did Phil provide fixed blades to the West Coast Seal teams. When asked to supply Seal Team 6 with a folder he declined but referred them to Earnest Emerson who in turn asked Phil if he could use Phil's blade design. Thus was born the famous CQC-6/ CQC-7.
