Nicely composed shot John with the red popping against the darker sides and background. And I like the very clean lines of your knife.

Still loving the little skinners.
No loosing that one!
I had a response from Mr. John Thompson regarding the "Blacksmith" knife I posted above.
First off he says he's made so many hundreds of them that he could never be sure if it were his or not, and that I should try to track down the region of the US that it came from. If it is local to him, then maybe.
Secondly he states that he never used an electric engraver to mark his knives. In fact he is only now looking to have a "hot stamp" made to mark his Blacksmith" knives in the future.
He also made a guess that IF this is one of his that the owner may have engraved it to know where he had gotten it.
He did state the steel he uses (1080 High Carbon Spring Steel), and his "C" rated Rockwell results. 60-63 on the edge, and 40-42 at the spine.
That's all I have on that one for now...

Thanks John and Cal, glad you like it, this is one that I'm having a hard time parting with, I think it would be a good user. Oh Well, got to keep the wolves away. Terry

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Good looking knife bigbore. I particularly like the design of the lower guard.
Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Thanks. To be honest the guard is inspired by some photos of old Olsen knives.

I have "better Westerns" maybe, but this one is just all around good to me.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Producer that knife looks to be capable of most anything one would ever call upon a fixed blade knife to do. I like it.

My nephew is stationed in Alaska and he got his first moose. He had this first knife made with the moose along with the cartridge he used. I got a dagger with a piece of antler too !!

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Hey John, Your Dunn knife looks very familiar, I have one I bought in the 80's in Grand Island, Ne. from Mr. Dunn , was wondering if yours would be made by the same guy? He used to be from Rossville, Ks, but I think he moved to Fl. As you can see, I've used mine a bunch, good little knife. Mine has diamond wood for a handle and yours looks like stag? I don't see many Dunn's out here, where are you from? or where did you come across your knife? thanks, terry

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
This one's been in my family since 1947. My father's second cousin was a Collins and this was gifted to him at his high school graduation by a family member. My oldest son will be the third generation to be the caretaker of this keepsake. My dad carved his initials (TFC) in the scabbard, I never did get to ask him why, one of life's great mysteries I guess. Enjoy!

Your knife predates the K5 by a minimum of 6 or 7 years. It was made between 1946/47 and 1953.
Your knife's stamp references the Western double tang patent. Western dropped the patent reference around 1952/1953.
The K-series (K1, K2, K3, K5 and 645) was short lived, from 1958 to 1960. (In the 1958 catalog but not the 1960 catalog).
Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Hi Terry.. Yes mine has the Rossville, KS stamp on the sheath and tang.. I bought it around 2000 at a Sport/Travel show here in Pittsburgh from him.. On my tang is stamped 2000v.. So I think the knife was made in 2000 but don't know what the v is for.. We were at the show and he had a pile of knives.. I looked at them and decided I would come back later.. Mistake.. When I came back (2hrs) later most were sold.. Yes my handle is stag.. Yours looks GOOD!! John

Great old Western! I have an old one (1944-1946) in the mail, I hope, R.H. Ruana 18A skinner with 'little knife' stamp and one pin.
