Re: American Made Hunting & Fishing Fixed Blade Knives
I forget the name of the two guys who started it but they were both custom knifemakers. The knives were not cheap either;if I remember correctly the Apache folder was about $50 back in the 1970's.You could buy a custom knife for that money then. The Bowie I got from Bob Frieda I think and whoever tried to do the engraving.....well let's just say they hadn't been practicing very long. The metal handled one I got about 10 years ago and it was one had never seen before.Smaller than the Apache in overall size it was definitely a Santee(California)made knife.I have a couple of Japanese made Rigids but they aren't even close in quality to the California made knives even though they are decent.Miller Bro's wrote:Thanks Ray!knife7knut wrote:Dimitri:That Rigid(#8 pic)is really nice!I have several of the Santee made knives including a Bowie that someone attempted to engrave.
I don't believe it was ever used, certainly not since I have owned it. I don't know much about these but it is a big well built knife, I have a couple more and a few folders.

Re: American Made Hunting & Fishing Fixed Blade Knives
Thanks Ray, I never researched them so today I searched the internet and found this:
Rigid Knives were founded in the early 1970s by former Buck employees; Bill Duff, Dean Parks, and Don Collum in Santee, CA., later moving to Lake Hamilton, AR before going out of business in the late 1980s.
From their original brochure:
Better knives are being made in America today than in any period of history. And in a small Southern California town, some of the best are being created in a modern and well-equipped factory. Rigid Knives are the product of many years of knife building experience. They are the result of a dream of craftsman who left a larger manufacturer t devote themselves to creating the “ultimate“ knife.
There is compromise to excellence in every Rigid knife. The finest materials, unique designs that fit a man’s hands and his needs like a glove, and painstaking hand work create a knife that can never be duplicated by machine. But the most important ingredient is pride. It assures that the knife is as unique as the craftsman who made it. Whatever kind of knife you need, there is a Rigid to fit the job.
Rigid Knives was a pioneer in the early days of American’s Cutlery Renaissance, pushing the envelope past the traditional designs of the 19th and early 20th centuries and merging the influence of custom knives to push the metallurgy and high tolerances that our current state-of-the-art manufacturers continue today and own a debt of gratitude.

Re: American Made Hunting & Fishing Fixed Blade Knives
The red one is a RH104. Blue and green is a RH204. If I'm not mistaken the yellow one is a RH204. The only difference is the RH104 had a blood groove.Miller Bro's wrote:A yellow one too!

Here’s a picture of my yellow rh204
Has a full BSA etch
Has a full BSA etch
Always looking for Mint pre war scout knives
Re: American Made Hunting & Fishing Fixed Blade Knives
An interesting side note to the RH204. I had one with a green handle marked Pal RH-204 that had a full BSA etch on the pile side of the blade. I sold it to a friend that was an Official Scout Knife collector. Never seen one before or since and neither has anyone else I have talked to. Post war years were tough times for knives supplied to the Scouts. Many strange things happened such as the Cardinal fixed blades. Knives were in very short supply and the Scouts got what they could form where they could.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Re: American Made Hunting & Fishing Fixed Blade Knives
Very Cool knife Mike. The knife I had the etch was the same but on the opposite side. Mine did not have the Scout snap and the sheath was different. Can't be too many of these floating around out there.
