Love those ol' creaky floor hardware stores...we still have one left in the neighborhood.
Well surprise, it is still there although the buildings that were on either side are gone. https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb ... CnoECAYQBg#
Now that's just too cool! ::tu:: You should visit the store one day with your knife and story. Ya never know, there might be some "old stock" in a back room somewhere. If the owner likes your story.....ya might get a shot at it.

Those are very nice knives! Is that Morseth an AG Russell release? And can you show the sheath if you have one?

Good eye. Yes, that's a Russell made Morseth (2013). The sheath on the left came with the knife. The sheath on the right was made by Savage Made Sheaths in Saxis, VA. Sent him a rough outline and dimensions and he sent me back a fitted, well made sheath.

Thanks for the compliment. Like a beautiful woman, stag and a good blade are irresistible.

Paid my folks a nickel for this one. Mom thinks my grandfather made it. He was a machinist back in WWII and made a few things he brought home. No markings at all.

Steve always like family history made in the knife. A cool knife even better as your grandfather had a hand in it. ::nod:: ::nod:: ::tu:: ::tu::

And, she's sharper than any knife I've sharpened before. She actually cut me, resting on my leg....not like cut, but touched the skin
and caused a tiny irritation, just by resting against my skin. SCARY SHARP!!!

No break in time necessary on that one Scott. A great looking knife and well suited to your ventures into the wild. I bet the boys will like it. And nothing beats a sharp knife. ::tu::

You better watch the boys; you'll be turning them into knife folk if you show that around.

Great old knife Scott!!! ::tu::

Years ago a Samurai nut friend of mine told me the true test of sharpness for a knife is to hold it cutting edge up and drop a silk scarf on it from 2 feet above. If it cuts the scarf, it passes. I've had only a few that sharp over the years but the wife still got a little bent about her scarves. ::rotflol::

Thanks guys. This one is a really early one. It's Tim's version of a Loveless Dixon Fighter. I just closed a deal on one of Tim's Big Bears, and it's a beauty. I get it Saturday. I was on the Loveless site, and Loveless Big Bear made today long after Bob is gone, go for $18,000. Tim's is really a great pattern, and seriously less money than the Loveless. The ones that Bob made are $35,000 now.
I'm really glad that Tim is a friend. He just keeps getting better and better even though he's only making knives part time. Some time this year he is going to'make me a folder. It will be very cool to get one of the first folders that he makes.

That would be a WW2 vintage L71 Seabees knife. One of the earlier versions since it has a red stripe spacer.

Some folks have called it a USN MK1, a G46-5 or a G46-6, but Western, to my knowledge, never had an actual MK1 contract with knives having a USN or USN-MK1 stamped on them. The true WW2 G46-5s and G46-6s had bird beak pommels.

The L71 officially has a 5" blade, but I have some with 5-1/4", 5-1/2" and nearly 6" blades, so it "seems" Western was a little loose with their specs on the model. As Western was VERY cooperative with the west coast units of the Navy and Marines and had a lots of "unit level orders", it wouldn't surprise me if Western ran a few runs of "custom" versions of the 71.
