A couple of custom fixed blades

Post by Jeffinn »

There's still a couple of custom fixed blades still available from the last group of knives that I did. Both are really nice knives at a fairly reasonable price.

Wow, Jeff, you have to be losing money on them at what you're charging. I bought one from a maker in Arizona for what you're charging, and the job was pretty danged crude. In fact, my great-Granddad did a better job on those he made for his own use during the Depression.

These are easily on par with those that tend to sell for double or more. Given my experience with 1085 on US-made Bokers, 1080 should not roll/chip as easily as 1095.

Thanks Cody.
Because I’m still new at making fixed blades I’ve been selling them at a fairly low price. The 1080 and 1084 carbon steels are a bit less finicky about the hardening temps which makes them a little bit easier than 1095 to heat treat and temper.
I’m hoping to get a few more done this year with some nice handle materials and possibly some custom leather sheaths to go with them.
Since I’m a one man operation I often find myself short of time and the Michigan weather doesn’t always present the greatest outdoor climate to work in.

Thanks Frank,
I have done a few smaller fixed blades previously. This is one of them, I believe it was just under 6";

For this month I have a couple of mini Sharpfinger knives that I'm working on that measure under 6" (approx. 5 7/8"). I'm working on a couple of leather sheath designs for them so I can hopefully offer them with sheaths.
And I've got a wharncliff blade fixed blade knife waiting for the grinder. It's made of 1084 carbon steel but its quite a bit larger than 6".
Do you have a particular style that you're interested in?
Jeff

Jeff, that small fixed blade looks great sorry I missed it can't wait to see you make another one. My hands are average for a small old guy and I usually carry a 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 and do prefer the overall length closer to 6 1/2'. My favorite blades are clip, drop point and spear blades. I might be interested in a sharpfinger, if you don't have a sheath NP I make my own. I own a custom wharncliffe fixed blade and like it a lot and if yours is close to 6 1/2' I might be interested. Thank you for sharing your work I'll be watching. Thanks Frank
