I posted a thread on this 3 1/4" pearl whittler about a year ago: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=55917&hilit=Shear+% ... p%3B+Knife
The replies confirm this to be all original, never messed with other than a manual cleaning with a metal polish that removed much of the blade etch which is" Tredway Wizard Hand Hammered". Tredway was a hardware store in Dubuque, Iowa in late 1800's to early 1900's. American Shear & Knife Co dates 1853 to 1917 so this knife is older than 100 years.
This is a very fine knife. The pearl is thick enough to be rounded to the liners giving a fine in hand feel. They are chip & crack free.
All 3 blades have smooth action, crisp snaps and half stops. Zero play. The walk & talk could not be better. Edges are original factory and show no signs of use with 9x loupe.
Inside the 'well' is clean.
Price $145; for a knife over 100 yrs old that is an excellent example of the very high quality workmanship of USA cutlers pre WW I
