Need Help ID German Maker

Post by Newt68 »

I picked up this cool little knife today and can't find any info on it. I was hoping someone on this forum would know more about this unusual knife and maker.

Levine has a listing for Raucherkopf ("smoking head") and refers to Voelker Foerst & Merten. J. Anthony Carter shows the trademark on your knife in association with Völker, Forst & Merten. Founded and registered in 1920, and still in business in 2000. They specialized in shears, including poultry (?), vine, gardening, tinplate and wire cutting shears.

Nice find and an interesting old maker. Raucherkopf was the brand name of Volker, Forst & Merten of Solingen-Hohscheid according to the J. Anthony Carter book “German Knife And Sword Makers”. Volker, Forst & Merten we’re makers of scissors, pocket knives and vine and gardening shears. Your knife appears to be a gardening and possibly grafting knife. Not many with that stamping out there.
