New German Fixed blade

Post by Woodly »

Received today a NEW German Sailor's fixed bade knife from Coleman's Surplus.
Cost $15.00 and worth it.
Has Rosewood [?] handles and is full tang.
Tang stamped MFH Int Co.
Tang is 1/8" thick
OAL IS 9 1/4" with 5" of that being blade.
Has bail hole.
Looks fine but is definitely a user in the kitchen, camp or field.
It is sharp and come with a leather sheath witha plastic liner. Sheath will hang from a belt.
The box it came in says;
BW Matrosenmesser NO. 44473
I'll post photos some time later.

If your religion requires that you hate someone, you need a new religion.

When the people fear their government, that is tyranny. When government fears the people, that is freedom.

Woodly, new and for $15, i cannot see it having been made in Germany. The German import rules are very lax such that i knife made in China can be sent to Germany for final buffing and sharpening and then marketed as "Made in Germany".
We look forward to PICTURES !

Mil-Tec, BW, and MFH are all made in China. I thought they were just knockoffs of German Army designs, but the theory was once raised when they were mixed in with large lots of used Bundeswehr pocketknives that these were considered to be issued, but the soldiers rejected them due to their Far East origin.

Still though, it might be a good knife.

I learned something-thanks.
I do think it is a decent knife...and I normally don't like Chinese.
The sheath is worth $15.00 :D

BW is not a company. That means BundesWehr.
This knife pattern (Matrosenmesser mit Scheide 5110-12-126-2475) is produced by many companies - German, Chinese and Italian. However, as far as I know, only two companies produced it by order of the German army - Donges GmbH & Co. and Dr. Feicke GmbH.
