Saynor auction find
Saynor auction find
I was at an auction to buy a couple of watches and I spotted these in a box with other knives. Well I just had to have a go didn’t I.
The two Saynor stag handled gardening knives are bath marked Saynor, Cooke & Ridal and on the reverse tang Sutton & Sons the retailer I presume.
The one with the dark stage handle has not been used or sharpened and apart from a couple of small areas of rust it still retains the polish finish. Both measure the same 7.5” open and 4.75” closed. God eh!

I think we can use the word antique. What old watch do you have kj? Is it like this?

No it's an old Waltham pocket watch, given to me 50 years ago by a retired dentist who had an extensive watch collection. It is at my other home so cannot take a picture right now. It still runs, or it did 50 years ago and it has been safely stored since.
If this truly might be of interest please send me a PM.
The watch you show looks to have the British "Broad Arrow" indicating military issue. Was this Lord (Admiral) Nelson's watch ?

Kj the ATP and the arrow indicate that its an army WW2 watch. It was made in the early 40"s and issued to the British army. A lot of the watches are not signed and you have to identify them by the font, type of hands, movement and case back. I would not be interested in your Waltham pocket watch unless it has the large crows foot or arrow.
I strip, clean, oill and resemble these for fun

Re: Saynor auction find
Those Saynor brand knives just came to my attention a few days ago.
They have beautiful lines, and are quite unique.
About what year/era do you believe the two you are showing are from?

I would say they are around 1890 ish give or take. Its hard to tell and be precise but I don't think I'm far out, they don't have made in England but that can be misleading if they were never meant for export. The worn one could be a bit older. They are sought after over here in the UK.

Re: Saynor auction find
They are beauties here as well. It's a shame they are not more common here tho.
I would have guessed they were 1940's... BOY was I off!
I have another style to add to my wish list...
