Re: GERMAN ROBERT KLAAS BRANDS
Let's see if I can resurrect this thread with the few R. Klaas knives I own. An identical sleeveboard made an appearance in this thread six years ago, so I felt it was safe to post another one after so long.
The two stag knives are duplicates from my EDC pile. I have safe queens (that are probably better-looking, honestly) but I'd have to go digging to find them. So I'm giving you the working knives instead.

Everything's better with a Barlow

Re: GERMAN ROBERT KLAAS BRANDS
Thanks, basser5! The sleeveboard was so nice when I got it that I resisted carrying it. However, at some point I figured life's too short and slipped it into the watch pocket. It's got even more patina now and the big master spear (which seems almost oversized relative to the knife) is still shaving-sharp to this day. It regularly gets toted these days, especially to complement a larger knife on the belt or in the LFP.
Re: GERMAN ROBERT KLAAS BRANDS
I'm new to the site and the extent of my knife collecting is that I carry a Spyderco pocket knife and have a Benchmade Bushcrafter for camping. I came across this Klaas knife and have searched online but have only found examples that have a kissing crane logo and don't have the sawtooth back. This one is marked ROB T KLAAS Germany on one side and has a KLAAS logo and Solingen on the other. Any info and if any value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you
Re: GERMAN ROBERT KLAAS BRANDS
Hi all,
I just saw this one on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Robert-Klass-S ... 0&LH_BIN=1
It looks brand new, not just NOS. It's marked Solingen, so I'm hopeful that it is actually made (and assembled) in Germany
It also looks well made. I assume that it is a contract knife with another manufacturer, but I'm not sure at all.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Keith

Re: GERMAN ROBERT KLAAS BRANDS
I'm not real familiar with Klaas, but I think it is real, made in Solingen, sometime around 2012-2016.
If you go to the web page printed on the box, using the WAYBACK machine, there are several versions of the klaas web page between 2012 and April 2016. The pictures are gone, but the text remains. After that date, the page disappears. (http://www.robert-klaas.de)
SOLINGEN is on both the tang stamp and the box. ( not "SOLINGEN STEEL" like Frost does)
<edit> Added some pics from the auction for future research.

Thanks, I appreciate that comment. These old Kissing Cranes are hard to come by, at least in my area.

If only I lived near Ravensburg again! My German slip-joint dreams would come true at the Saturday markets now that I'm a bit older and have some discretionary money.
Back then, money was tight so basic needs came first but, Lake Konstanz wasn't far away and the local stream was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon! The views from the trains, especially out of Munich headed towards Austria were stunning as well and still bring back fond memories of the awesome views and a late evening between trains in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Bahnhof snow around a Christmas trip. Even though I didn't have much money back then, life was simply awesome! Now looking back, I wish I had the good sense to get something other than a Victorinox Spartan! Oh well, such is youth ...

I'm 47 but I still don't have much discretionary money. It could be worse though so I shouldn't complain. Liveing in Germany is OK but even after 27? 28? years, I still miss the states. Can you imagine, they don't have Pop-Tarts here?

Re: GERMAN ROBERT KLAAS BRANDS
I'm not a Pop-Tart fan personally. But, Speculaas cookies
How about Kolaches (if they have crossed the border that far South)? Sort of Pop-Tart'like only better! Don't get me started about hot dogs either! The Green Herring run in the Netherlands is something I miss still today. I used to miss good beer but, now that watered down swill we call beer over here is a distant memory with good Micro-breweries and German/Czech beer imports. And the bread was awesome too.
The Snowflakes and 'woke' children that think they know it all is getting to be a bit much over here now. Add the entitlements they think they are owed and, the American dream starts to become a nightmare for the people that worked to put themselves and their children through school while avoiding Springbreaks in Cancun and expensive apartments next to campus .... [/rant mode off]
Now to find a Robert Klaas Beer Barrel Canoe I can afford!

An early 1960s Robert Klaas Kissing Crane #829 teardrop jack (?) with eye catching scales. A non-mint survivor leading a retired lifestyle on my display shelf. I replaced two missing bolsters. Robert Klaas Germany on back of main blade. Like me it’s pitted and shows its age...

That's a nice one. I haven't seen anything like that in my searches. In fact, finding a Robert Klaas that isn't a cheap Chinese version is pretty tough doing web searches.Reverand wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 8:02 pmThat is a pretty HOK! It is a looker for sure. It was found at the Vancouver Flea Market awhile back... before Zoogirl began cleaning the place out! An AAPK member sent me this catalog listing. Year?
