70's Carl Schlieper German Eye Survival Knife

Postby onehikes » Fri Jan 11, 2019 5:35 pm

Carl Schlieper German Eye Survival Knife- Hollow handles and ice tempered. (is that we call cryo tempered today?)

The Survival Knives were manufactured in the 1970’s and imported into the US. They feature an OAL of 10.5” and a 5.5” blade of 440 Stainless Steel. It had a hollow handle for storing survival supplies, a saw blade on the top of the blade and drilled holes in the hand guard to tie to a shaft to make a spear. There were 2 models; this is the first and more sought-after Survival Knife. These have to be on my Top 5 list of great Factory Manufactured Fixed Blade knives, Hammer Forged, great grind lines and finish, good balance and after 50 years they often look like they just left the Factory.

Beautiful knife! The blade shape is very reminiscent of the Smith & Wesson bowie like this one.
