NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
I am gonna go on a hunt for a new top shelf Tactical to be my every day carry
I "do not want" a flipper or one that pops open when you nudge it
A manual, that you use the hole or thumb stud to open...Gotta have a pocket clip mounted right at the end for deep pocket carry
Tip up or down OK especially if I like the knife
When I say top shelf,,,, money wise,,,,,$125.00 to $325.00...would
consider a bit more if it bit me and would not let go........
You guys got any idea's ???
Ain't really bought a folder in years so your help / input on this matter would be helpfull and much appreciated
I am open to any handle, I like the looks of them anodized brite color screws and pocket clip I mite add
Blade would have to be 3 1/2 -4 1/2 inches or there abouts,, I like Bowie or Clip type blades and Drop points if that helps
So if a blow away Custom I went ga-ga over that was I bit more money,,,I would consider it
For pattern compareison...my favorite looking knife is a Crawford / Kasper folder
Thanks

Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
Search on line for "Real Steel", "Ganzo" and "WE".
All are Chinese brands that are making tactical style knives with high end steel, pivot bushings, etc. VERY impressive knives for ~ $250 and less.

Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
All of the brands listed above provide useable knives, some being more refined than others. I am going to suggest you take a look at a Cold Steel catalog simply to familiarize yourself with the variety of patterns a tactical knife can provide. One factor to consider is how much weight you are willing to carry on a routine basis. Good luck on what should be a very interesting search.

Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
I don't understand why you feel obligated to spend that kind of money on one when there are Kershaws and Bucks made right here in the US that are handy, well built knives for under $50. In fact, PM your mailing address and I will send a Buck 721 Slimline (4¼" closed) to you that you can test drive. If you like it, you can keep it at no charge. All I ask is that if you don't like it, please send it back.

Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
Here is another knife for your consideration. I do not own this knife and have no experience with it. It is made in China. It is on my wishlist as a potential EDC. It might not meet the definition of "tactical" - AG Russell refers to it as a Folding Gents Hunter. Good luck and have fun on your search.

Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
Thanks oh so much for that offer Jerry....and everyone who reads this...
this is a prime time example of what AAPK is about, least in the 12 plus yrs I been a member
Thank You from my heart Jerry, but I am looking for something different
Jerry knows from a PM I sent him and a lot of ya all do too, I just lost my wife after 50 yrs together just 33 days ago...
I guess I should have been a bit more specific Jerry,, but I wrote this just before going to bed, and
that is a rough time for me daily,, did not feel like gettin all snuffed up and shorting out the keyboard with water
She had a small life insurance policy and I can hear her telling me to do something with some of the money that makes me happy
So I was thinking like as a example, bronze or copper color handle of whatever, with gold screws and gold color pocket clip
not necessary that color, but some thing jazzy that sticks out, fancy if you will as a "Tribute too Her" that I would
carry in my pocket every day till the end, a tap on my side and there it would be, her memory made into a knife, just
one more thing to keep her close as I miss her so damm much
I carry a knife at ALL times, but when the model 36 Glock is not nearby, I want a knife that I can do more with
than cut some rope, etc. a tactical with close to 4" blade, pocket clip, U.S.A. made,, but one that can be dressed up and be
different and special as my wife Pam was to me for 50 years !!!

This one is a little beyond your price point, but satisfies some of the criteria you mentioned for colors, made in USA, etc.
I'm sorry for your loss and hope a "remembrance" knife brings you comfort.

Jerry is spot on here He gifted me a Buck 721 and she has quickly become one of my go too work knives and it runs about half the cost of most of my work one hand knives BUT REMEMBER Stag NEVER bring a knife to a gun fightjerryd6818 wrote:I don't understand why you feel obligated to spend that kind of money on one when there are Kershaws and Bucks made right here in the US that are handy, well built knives for under $50. Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
I like tactical knives and especially anything made by David Deng of Reate Knives. This pic is of three knives all made by Reate and designed by Tashi Bharucha and all are integrals. The bottom knife is called Baby Machine and is not a flipper, but can be flicked open just as fast with a nudge of your finger. Runs on caged bearings and can be bought from one dealer I know for $320.00. They are due out in March and will sell out quickly.

Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
Here's a few I found by just limiting the search criteria at KnifeCenter to $150-$350, made in the USA and 3-4" blade length. I then just selected some that caught my eye. They don't necessarily tick all the boxes - for example, a lot of really nice modern knives are now flippers. I'm partial to titanium and carbon fiber, so you'll see some of that here. I make no endorsement of of any of these knives - I just think they are kinda purdy...

Right now I am leaning tword the Pro Tech TR-4 Manual folder,,,plain edge,,satin finish
it has aluminum handles and I could then send the knife too someone
to anodize what color and what parts to do,,, a one of a kind-der
I found one that the knife outfit that will have one in in 2 weeks for $169.95 shipped
maybe 75.00 or so for anodizing and I got me a custom type knife
least thats where I am at now,,,but we all know how that rolls in the knife game

I posted to the auto forum that Michigan like some other states has changed their switch blade law. Which was both out-dated and handy-capped people had trouble opening a regular knife. Does that apply to all possible types, I do not know!

Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
Only requirement in Michigan is the blade be 3" or less. This applies to OTF as well. I've carried knives that were larger than 3" blade and never had a problem. Even the LEO'S I've shown knives to never had a problem.

Howdy there Jim...how is Northern Michigan treating you these days ???
I knew about the Law change
I just prefer a Manual opening tactical vs the automatics...
and I really like that Pro Tech TR-4 Satin finish...and its a bit bigger with a 4 inch blade
I like the bigger knives for EDC
Good to hear from ya tho Jim, you came to mind when I went thru Dundee last fall....

Re: NEED MEMBERS ADVICE ON NEW TACTICAL
This one is below your price that you were looking at. But I have this Bear Marigold Bone tactical that hits a lot of your specks and I would sell you this for 50 bucks. If nothing else, it would make a good back up knife. This yellow color would be very hard to lose.
Let me know if you have an interest in this.

I see you want to spend a lot of money, But. I have recently got ahold of a Ganzo. Its made in China, like most everything else we own. It is fantastic. Very well made, easy to open and close, sharp as can be. Tough 440C steel. Holds its edge. I got mine at a garage sale for a whopping $10.00 that is Ten bucks. Best ten bucks I ever spent on a knife. I like my USA slip joints as much as anyone but, for a user the Ganzo is more than fine. The F753M1 Ganzo firebird is available from Amazon for $16.95 . Just sayin, might want to try one.
