Case 6340 Mastodon bark Ivory

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case 6340 Mastodon bark Ivory

Post by vabeach454 »

Hi,

I am new to this forum and I was wondering about this knife. It is a Case 6340 Stock knife with a plain bomb shield. Tang reads Case Brothers Bradford PA 19 USA 96 with XX on blade other side of tang reads Tested XX 6340 and handle material is Mastodon bark Ivory. Any ideas on authenticity & worth? The box is not for this knife, it never had its own.

I also cant find it in the Case best in the long haul book either. I have had the knife looked at and given COA from Parkers Knife Collector Service, but they made a typo on it saying Tang read 19 USA 98!! ::hmm::

Thanks in Advance

If that is the COA,with your knife ??? You will notice that it says, plain "'Bomb Shield""___less than 10 produced ****

the one ,I referred you to has ""Bowtie Shield"" __ 1 of 5 production ***___several different versions,of the 340 Stockman pattern, were made**

These were Case Classics !!! (reproductions of past Case knives)__very collectable, when released, and today *** marketed through Bluegrass Cutlery and most were made by Queen**

As an avid Case Classic collector it is always nice to see fellow knife collectors enthused over the Classic series of knives ..... very well made knives !!!
Nice looking knife !!!! Indeed you do have a Case Classic "340 " w/ mastodon bark ivory scales. Pocket Knife Trader's Price Guide Vol 8 says the quantity of these knives " vary " meaning the company did not keep super accurate records. Don't worry about the 6340 designation, Case Classics used many of the same blades with different handle materials.

Book price = $500 , I would say real life value all depends on the mint condition of the knife and the quality of the mastodon bark .... I think $300 would be a max for the 340 series.

Hope this helps ?
