10 Year Anniversity Knife Giveaway - Custom Kershaw
10 Year Anniversity Knife Giveaway - Custom Kershaw
I thought about doing a knife giveaway when I hit 10,000 posts on AAPK but I was busy and just never got around to it. As of May 15th of this year I have been a member of AAPK for 10 years. I wanted to do a giveaway then, but that was less than a month before the OKCA show, and my busiest time of the year. It has taken me a few months to get caught up but in July I turned 65.
The knife for this giveaway is a customized Kershaw Wild Turkey model #4150. This knife has the KERSHAW/OREGON/USA tang stamp, which dates it to about 1985 or earlier. About 1986 Kai Cutlery, the company that made Kershaw knives in Seki Japan, purchased Kershaw Knife Company from Pete Kershaw. After Kai the company they made a few changes in the steel. When Pete own the company most of their knives were made with AUS 8-A steel; after Kai purchased the company they begin to make their pocketknives from AUS 6 steel and their survival knives and hunting knives were made of AUS 8-A steel. This information on the types of steel they were using is actually printed on the back of the 1986 catalog. The information on the earlier use of AUS 8-A in most all of their knives comes from a 1982 dealer price list.
I suppose I should note that this knife is one I customized. The original Kershaw Wild Turkey had rosewood handles, not stag.
This knife giveaway would be to celebrate my first 10,000 posts on AAPK, but I have exceeded that (13,800+), so it seems a bit silly to do this for 10,000 posts. It is still my 10th year as a member of AAPK and I also turned 65 this July (on Bastille Day). I am now officially a Senior Citizen! Where I live being a Senior Citizen means for just $5 I can get a cup of coffee! Such a deal!

A great gesture, my friend . Got to thinking about the knife and thought since I already have one of your customized Kershaws I'd just lay low on this giveaway opportunity. But then I thought again and it came to me that this one is a little bit different than the one you gifted me when I had my knee replaced so I'm going to jump in too!
Folks, the one Dale presented me a couple years ago has a special place in my "accumulation" !

Ken you are correct, as it has been wearing on me. What can I do to help the AAPK financially. I know this has to cost someone. I haven't seen a place to make a contribution or otherwise. It would help my conscious if I could give back something in return for all the enjoyment and knowledge thats been shared with me.

You can contact Bryan, the owner of this site and let him know you'd like to make a contribution to AAPK. He does not solicit donations but I don't think that he would refuse one if offered.montemojo wrote:Ken you are correct, as it has been wearing on me. What can I do to help the AAPK financially. Re: 10 Year Anniversity Knife Giveaway - Custom Kershaw
Thanks Phil will do, I was also thinking maybe an AAPK auction with donated knives by concerned members. I dont know how that would work out. I was thinking about the PBS auction they have every year. I beleive it is a non profit organization. I think the AAPK would be similar.
