We had a Norfolk Southern sighting during our morning coffee walk. The engines were moving pretty quickly, had to grab a fast shot. The engineer saw us and let out a few air horn blasts.

Posted these on the " Other Sharp Objects" thread. Cudgee suggested putting them here too. These were my Great-uncle George's. He was a machinist for the WESTERN MARYLAND RAILWAY. died in 1980 at ninety years old. (Some of you may remember my posts of his steam engine and miniature tools and anvils). Well, these shears aren't miniatures! They weigh about two pounds and are a foot long. The pivot rivet is bigger than a quarter and bronze or brass.
I've gone over them and can't find a maker's stamp anywhere. They look like they were enamel coated so maybe the brand was in the enamel. I'm fascinated by the intricate casting of the thumb and finger cuffs. I had a foundry class way back in high school and cannot imagine how that detail was accomplished, or the French-curve work of the draftsman who did the pattern designs in three views. They fit the right hand perfectly, are very comfortable to use and cut galvanized sheet like paper. Thought some of you tool enthusiasts might enjoy them. J.O'.

Found these at a barn sale this afternoon for ten bucks.The engine,coal car,and caboose are marked,"Rock Island Line". One of the box cars is marked,"Southern Pacific Line -Pacific Fruit Express" and the other,"C.B.&Q- Burlington Route".Not sure of the era but if I had to guess I would think 1940's.
I'm not sure who made this particular set;I have a couple others that are similar but slightly larger scale.
