"Diecast Collecting"
Re: "Diecast Collecting"
Matchbox, Majorette, Tomica, and Hot Wheels are all over the place.
Motorbikes are as big as 1:32, many small cars around 1:43-1:50, and most American cars tend to fall between 1:60 and 1:72. Trucks usually are around HO-1:125. Some mining rigs and military equipment have scaled as small as 1:300.
I have started digging myself. Going to likely have to go through what I have. Prior to 2012, and as far back as the late '70s, Matchbox marked an accurate scale on the base. Now,they always mark it as 1:64 regardless of the actual scale.
The Caterham Superlight is said to be spot-on 1:48. I have at least a couple--they're yours if I can find them.
https://matchbox.fandom.com/wiki/Caterh ... 500_-_2009
Same with the Fordson Major--also listed as 1:48 scale. The International B-250 is slightly larger--I did the math myself based on mine.
I always had them pegged as 1:43, but like Dan said, all the MOYs from the Lesney era are 1:48.

Re: "Diecast Collecting"
There was a slight snafu with an eBay purchase, and I ended up getting to keep this one in addition to the one I was supposed to get (which was shipped as soon as I messaged the seller yesterday afternoon). Both of the items I purchased typically go for around $40 each, and I paid just $12 shipped for the car I was supposed to get.
It's a Minichamps Mercedes SL-500 Roadster in 1:43 scale; and seems to be a dealer promo looking at the Mercedes star on the case (which regular issue versions usually just had a Minichamps decal instead). I think it's about a '94 model, maybe a '95.
Plenty of moving parts--all other 1:43 I own have an opening hood at most. The hood, doors, and trunk all open. The rollbar also flips down, and the whole front seat piece flips forward to access the backseat.
1:43 are very high detail. This piece is no exception, but actually is just roughly in the middle compared to other brands. I honestly prefer moving parts to stuff that falls off if I look at it funny. Moving parts tend to not allow as much detail, so that is why they are left out.
I did have to reattach a grille, but it did just snap on--no glue required.
Hood doesn't really stay up on its own--I had to use a Q-tip cut down to hold it up.
The full instrument cluster, Mercedes star, and door details are present.
Back seat view. I learned the rollbar flipped up solely by accident.
Mercedes star on case.

Here's what I was supposed to get:
A 1992 Mercedes S-Class by Cursor--made in Germany as a Mercedes promo.

Re: "Diecast Collecting"
I plan to restore these when I can figure out what the heck I'm doing.
They are larger than my other Tootsietoy models (I'd put the Packard at 1:25, the IH Metro at around that same scale--Mack 1:43), and as usual with Tootsietoys, feature few parts, so they should be simple.

Great looking Chevy. I am a big fan of the 1:24 or 1:25 scale. You have some great detail in that model...not all of the 1:25 scale have the detail that your model does.

Very cool! Especially like the outdoor shots; look almost full size. I'm gonna have to try that.knife7knut wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 5:57 am A couple of custom casts by Clarence Young Autohobbies. I hear ya Dave! Most of my accumulation resides in my shop & basement. Fortunately both see very little use of late as my wife is confined to a wheelchair and I have curtailed my business considerably to care for her.Just Plain Dave wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 5:34 pm I simply HAVE To stay a 1/64 IE: Hot Wheels Matchbox and such.
