Active Shooter at NAS Pensacola, FL

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Active Shooter at NAS Pensacola, FL

Post by dlr110 »

Folks I just saw on the news of an active shooter event this morning at the base in Pensacola, FL. It scared me mainly because I still have friends active and retired at that base. Please lets pray for all concerned and the families of those that were killed or injured.

As of 11:16 EST.

Officials just wrapped up a news conference about the shooting at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, this morning.

Here's what we know so far:

The timeline: David Morgan, Escambia County Sheriff, said officer received notice that there was an active shooter at 6:51 a.m. local time.
3 people and the shooter were killed: A total of four people died in the shooting, including the shooter, who has not been identified.
11 people were shot: Officials said a total of eleven people were shot. Eight of them were transported to a local hospital, where one of them died.
Deputies engaged the shooter: Two deputies from Escambia County Sheriff’s Office "negated" the shooter, according to the sheriff. One was shot in the knee and the other in the shoulder, but both are expected to make a full recovery.
What we don't know: It's still unclear if the shooter was military personnel. Officials have also declined to answer questions about the weapons used by the shooting and the specific building in which the shooting took place.

I wonder if this one was real. The gun grab hoaxes come so fast and furious it's hard to tell anymore. Just my opinion.

Did you ever stop to think how the families and friends of these mass shooting victims must feel when you so lightly dismiss their loved ones’ deaths and injuries as a ‘hoax’? I know it must be difficult, but try to display at least a modicum of empathy…it’s not all about you and some imaginary attempt to steal your precious guns. :x

I just heard on the radio that the shooter was a foreign National, a member of the Saudi Air Force, who was at Pensacola for training.

Not really. Military bases are simply shooting galleries. 99%+ of the people, civilian and active duty, are unarmed. Only the gate guards and base police have weapons, and not all the rent-a-cop gate guards are armed.

The shooter at Pearl Harbor the other day killed himself. The muzzie shooter at Ft Hood was shot by base police only after he had already shot 40+ unarmed soldiers. The Maryland Navy Base shooter killed 12 and wounded 3 more in the 64 minutes he was stalking and killing before the police even attempted to enter the building.

You're right. I guess I was going all John Wayne there for a minute. Just because I had an M-14 in the rifle rack in the barracks doesn't mean I had any ammo for it. And I'm fully aware that the bad guys don't follow the rules/laws.

Are you not thinking? I spoke with a friend of mine that I served with and that was on base this morning. It's not a hoax, it's real, those were real people that died.

::hmm:: I carried a loaded .45 while on Sounding and Security watch in port aboard ship and sometimes to escort prisoners from the brig in San Diego and "some" visitors to certain restricted areas of the ship. Didn't carry while underway as I stood my regular duties as a watch stander in the engineroom. ftd

I have been on NAS Pensacola many times for work. It is a very strange kind of setup. A major road runs through the base, for one thing. Up until a couple of years ago you did not even have to be going to the base to go into the base on the road. I think that has changed. But ... there is a pretty big air museum along the main road that runs through the base, and anyone who wants to visit the museum enters the base. To really secure the base they would have to make it so hard to visit the museum that they might as well close the museum. By the way, the base is mostly bordered by water that lots of fishing boats frequent. When I did some work there about a decade ago there were no observation points covering the shoreline. Nothing at all to keep someone from taking his johnboat and a load of guns over to the base side of the bay. It would be very manpower intensive to secure the water approaches to that base.

A Saudi National being trained at NAS Pensacola, a man who apparently thought little of taking a weapon and shooting a bunch of Americans.

We're lucky he didn't choose to use a fighter jet and fly into a tall building somewhere.

Granted, I know nothing of his flight status and whether or not he has ever or ever would be at the controls of a Navy jet.

Unless he was a mental case, it's islamic terrorism.

They ought to send the rest of his team and I understand there are a dozen or more, straight back to Saudi Arabia tomorrow.

Charlie - I agree with you - send them all packing tomorrow.

According to the evening national news (trust with great skepticism), the shooter was one of +/-900 Saudis currently training in the US at various military facilities. 5000+/- foreign nationals of all persuasions training in the US.

There was also a reference to a very anti-US post the shooter allegedly posted on a social media site.

I personally think, if you are licensed to conceal / carry...you should be able to carry...on base. If you want to find a person to rob or rape, coming home, from work...pick a soldier...cause you know they can't carry. I was on Ft Hood, when the mass shooting went down. He wouldn't have gotten so far, if some of his buddies were armed. ZZYZZ...nailed it when he said bases were shooing galleries.

"President Trump tweeted that King Salman told him 'the Saudi people are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter...' "

Pardon me if I'm just a tiny bit skeptical. Turns out six Saudi's were possibly involved with the shooting, three of which were filming the incident, so draw your own conclusions. :x

When I was still active duty we trained pilots from Saudi, Kuwait, Yeman, all of those countries at our advanced jet training commands. I even trained some of their air traffic controllers. All those guys ever wanted to do was party on family money and our time. I never fully understood why we had those programs knowing one day our pilots might have to fly against them. Back then if it wasn't us doing it, it would have been the Russians.

When I was in basic training, at Lackland AFB...the Defense Language Institute was packed with Iraqi students. When I went to Sheppard AFB, they were all training to be pilots. That all changed with the ousting of the Shaw. Alliances in the middle east are tenuous, at best.

The JFK Center for Special Warfare and School at Ft Bragg has been training foreign nationals from all over the world for many decades, including those from predominantly Islamic countries.

Wondering how many we turned around and killed since the first Iraq War.

Wondering when and what it will take for people to wake up? Another example of needless loss. FBI/National Security officials should be fired without severance or pay for their ineptness. Condolences to the families, friends and fellow service members there. ::pray::

All the other news reports I have seen are still saying the gunman “acted alone”. ::shrug:: I trust no reports attributed to an “anonymous source” or “unnamed sources”. I’ve seen enough of that crap from The NY Times and similar agenda driven sensationalist rags.

Not that I’d doubt there were more than one involved, but............

He may have been a "lone shooter" but he was not the only one involved in the planning and execution of the actual shooting. The fact that a fellow Saudi was present to record the event tells me there was cooperation/collusion.

One report identified that foreign nationals are not allowed to own weapons, with a loop hole exception - if they possess a valid hunting license. THAT loop hole needs to be slammed shut.
