Spectacular photos Mel. Just great.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Whoa Mel, I like it. Great photo of a beautiful bird.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Thanks fellows. For every decent photo I have a lot like this one. If you look real close, maybe with a magnifier, you can almost see the eagle in this photo!

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Mel, it is knice to see them even at a distance. I thought when they were flying that they came with crows pestering them.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
These two showed up at the feeder today and I could not resist pic's of them, especially the male. I think him to be a male house finch.

What a great photo Basser! That goldfinch is wonderful.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Great pictures, doglegg, Mel and Tim.
Here's another Redwing Blackbird.
The red in the wing is so much more beautiful than in the photo.

Redwings have always been a favorite. Love to see their nest in a bunch of reeds. Great photo.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
My deer camera captured several bird this time. I hadn't checked the camera in about 3 weeks and found 2 hawk pictures, a female Cardinal and one Red-headed Woodpecker all in flight. The AM/PM is reversed on the pictures. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Can one of you Ornithologists I.D. the hawk for sure? Treefarmer

Those are really cool Philip. I haven't had much luck with in flight pics in my efforts. Those are great.

From Google images of red shoulder hawks, that certainly looks like one to me.
Cool pics!

Great feeder / hawk pictures!

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Very good photos on the last couple of pages. The male Gold Finches and Blackbirds are really in fine plumage at this time of year!
I really like that second hawk photo, Treefarmer. I agree with you that it is a Red Shouldered Hawk. Of all the hawks that I see, the Red Shouldered is one the hardest for me to positively identify. Part of that is that they are usually in woods or swamp, so I usually get a bit of a brief glimpse. But a bigger part is that field marks are not as obvious, to my eyes anyway, as with many hawks. This time of year, a large Buteo here on the Gulf Coast is most likely a Red Tail or Red Shoulder, and that is definitely not a Red Tail.

Fine photos. Great in flight shots.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Some dark eyed junco pics from our Washington trip. The last one played in the water sprinkler for better than 15 minutes. Acted like a little kid.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Nice Flicker and Junco photos, Doglegg. Flickers are common in this area, but for some reason we do not have a population in our neighborhood. I love seeing their wings flashing in the sunlight.
Mostly we have Red Bellied Woodpeckers in our garden. Here is an elegant lady checking out the sunflower seed.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Mel, that is a great shot. What a pretty little bird.
I've never seen flickers around Dallas/Ft.Worth. Was glad to see them in Washington St. We do have various woodpeckers but I usually only hear them and not see them. I sure like yours.
