Can Anyone Explain This Razor Handle?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Can Anyone Explain This Razor Handle?

Post by RobesonsRme.com »

I came across this razor this past week in a still active Ebay auction.

The razor itself is Robeson, but it appears to have been put into this handle. That is not the way Robeson pinned their razors.

The nude lady is standing on the back of a man or a man-like tortoise and he appears to be in some anguish.

Is there a mythological basis for that image?

I'm seeking a serious response, but feel free to be humorous, maybe we could run with that theme for a page or two. ::tu::

I could see some in the current war on masculinity appropriating the image.

Photo should expand with a left click or two.

What is the handle material ?
I do not know of any myth of a woman standing on the back of a prone man. Maybe a myth from China/Japan ? if carved ivory.

I don't know about the handle, but I have and shave with a Robeson ShurEdge. Gives a fantastic shave.
Take care and God bless,

Charlie, I’m no expert, but I believe it’s part of the painting “The Birth of Venus”.

Roland, I'm pretty sure it's celluloid. If carved ivory, it would be worth going after, though, would it not?

Steve, I have visited a couple of straight razor shaving websites. Robeson ShurEdge razors are highly regarded on those sites.

Colonel, I will have to investigate that painting.

And, yes, the current war on our "toxic masculinity" is probably why I even noticed the significance of the image.

Do not do a Google image search for "Nude standing on a man".

Just don't.

Don't do it.

I keep SAFE mode enabled.
And there are just some words I won't include in a search.
Unfortunately there are some words that should be safe yet people have chosen to pervert them.

Good advice on Google... I will take your word for it!
Back about 1993 I was going through VA Voc Rehab and they got me a computer as part of the training so I could learn how to use it.
My ex wife decided she would help one of my boys write report on the Oregon State animal. She was pretty shocked by the pictures she saw.
Thankfully they have put a lot more safeguards on the web since 1993. ::uc::

In Greek mythology the notion that women with their beauty, guile and deceptive nature were a punishment from the gods initially for Prometheus' theft of fire from Zeus. Pandora was sent to unleash unending pain and suffering on the Male population. After that Aphrodite the goddess who used her beauty to seduce mortal men. Then Helen of Troy whose beauty launched a thousand ships. There are many others , Venus included, it could be any one of them. And of course Greek men thought this was perfectly logical.
