Today is Pearl Harbor Day
I just wanted to point out what I am sure a lot of you already know.
On this day, December 7th, 1941.... in a surprise attack... many of our service men and women were killed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This attack thrust the United States into WWII. We lost a lot of brave men and women during that war. I would like to stop a moment and remember their sacrifice and give thanks to God for defending our country and helping put an end to that terrible war.
I pray NOTHING like that ever happens again,....
Heavenly Father... We are so thankful for the sacrifice these Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen made while defending our country and other countries abroad from the terrible atrocities that were committed in Europe and the Pacific. We know you have them safely with you now. Please bless the few remaining Veterans still with us. Let us NOT forget to thank them for their service any time we can.
We pray this prayer in the name of Your Son Jesus, who made the ultimate sacrifice for everyone.
Amen

..........I was less than 5 years old and I don't really remember this day, but I do remember a little later on of sitting around the radio listening to the war news. I still remember what Gabriel heater's voice sounded like!!.......... ......................
Re: Today is Pearl Harbor Day
It did happen again, but on September 11th. For the same reason too, inept intelligence agencies. VERY sad days in our history.

Edit: Simultaneous posts John.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt: "Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan".
That's back when we didn't take any shirt from anybody. Now people whine, saying we attacked the wrong people after 9/11. Bull roar! The governments of that entire region is the "right people".

I get SO TIRED of people whining...you know,..... they REALLY all just need to SHUT UP and say "thank you" occasionally. That is the VERY LEAST they could do for the opportunity to live in a FREE nation.jerryd6818 wrote:

Otherwise, I just say... get out!

Re: Today is Pearl Harbor Day
Just came in to rest a minute and spent time looking at each of the pictures of Pearl Harbor Bro. Charlie Noyes just posted. What a tragedy our country endured, then again on 9-11, it makes my old heart hurt to see these pictures. I've experienced the same feelings several times recently, driving through the unbelievable storm damage after Hurricane Michael and even more recently the death a very close friend. Whether it's a national disaster, a local disaster or a personal loss, we have a lot to be thankful for as we march through this life. How blessed we are as we look back on our nation's history and also our own personal lives.

Re: Today is Pearl Harbor Day
..can't quit thinking about ww2 stuff today. my most vivid memory was about the naval battle of Guadalcanal(nov. 14-15 1942). my uncle was a high ranking student officer(col.) in the ROTC at miss. state. he graduated in may 1942 and enlisted in the marines immediately. he didn't have to take basic training, he went directly to advanced marine gunnery school at quantico va., and graduated in july 1942 and went directly on board the USS WASHINGTON (BB-56) which was re-fitting at Newark, n. j. for action in the south pacific.(he was gun director for the starboard twin 5" guns, the side facing the enemy during the battle) it had been on convoy escort duty in the n. atlantic prior to that. they left Newark in late july, and 4 months later were involved in the midnight nov. 14-15 night naval battle of guadalcanal in which the Washington sank the Japanese battleship Kirishima, one on one!!...the only u.s. battleship to ever sink another battleship!!.... they scored 9 hits with the 16" guns and 45 hits with the twin 5" guns!!..and no one to my knowledge could ever get him to talk about it!!!....... .............

I was at Pearl Harbor this spring, cold chills ran up my spine as I gazed at the place where all those brave men went down.

The pastoral view of the the harbor shows nothing that was sacrificed for that Peace. May god save those who served there.

Re: Today is Pearl Harbor Day
Yesterday was the first Remembrance Day at Pearl Harbor in which no survivors of the U.S.S. Arizona participated.
There are still five living survivors. None were physically able to attend.
I suspect all five will die before December 7th, 2019.

Re: Today is Pearl Harbor Day
That's good.
Some Arizona survivors opt to have their ashes placed within the hull of the ship. The Park Service conducts those ceremonies after hours with just the families in attendance.
Got to be a solemn, moving experience.

Re: Today is Pearl Harbor Day
Fellows, I did not weigh in on this thread on the day, but I have appreciated seeing the posts. Those photos that Charlie posted really convey a sense of the destruction. I hate to imagine the confusion that must have prevailed, even on the undamaged ships, when attacked in their own home port.
