Thank you for posting that reel, Eustace.
That is a little jewel.
A model number I am not familiar with.
That is so nice you have your fathers reel.

You showed a very interesting baits. Tomorrow I will look at what's in my boxes. I think I had some old French wobblers.
Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
Thank you, Eustace.
I'm glad you liked the pictures.
It would be nice to see your lures and I'm sure, Richard, who started this thread would like that as well.

The rotor and the handle look like they might be from a 300 but it has a small gear box.carrmillus wrote: ....I've never heard of that model no., either!!............ ......................

....been a long time since I saw a Mitchell 308, but the more I look at it, the more it looks like a 308 with different numbers???........... ................FRJ wrote:Agreed.
I wonder if Garcia made that just for the European market?
Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
Some online info regarding the 204 Garcia Mitchell series... (As an aside unlike knives one really doesn't have to worry about fakes and counterfeits )..
""The Garcia Mitchell 204 reel shown below is "Garcia's" version prior to their bankruptcy in 1978. Also below is the Browning 204S 1st release from 1980 and thanks to Wayne Fassbender we are showing a Browning "boxed" 204S 2nd release from 1982. The Mitchell Sports 204S 1st release from 1982 is also shown and again, thanks to Wayne we are showing the 2nd release from 1983.
All Mitchell 200 series after Garcia will have the letter "S" suffix as you can see. Some believe the S suffix stands for skirted spool but they are not all skirted! In comparing the two, the "S" in this case seams to stand for "Saltwater" proof as did the Mitchell 304S reel. Upgrades to the 204S include a new Rotating Head, Bail Wire and Mount, Spool Drag Knob and Anti-Reverse Lever. All of these improvements made the "S" series reel more durable and corrosion resistant.
You will see the first two known schematics on both releases we have found so far. More can be seen in our Schematics Gallery. You'll also see a 200 Series Specification chart from a 1977 advertisement and another from 1981 on the 200S Series. Other various advertisement photographs are also shown to help as a visual aid in identification.""
Here's the link from the Mitchell Reel Museum and this site has alot of info on Mitchell: http://www.mitchellreelmuseum.com/index ... -205-204-s

Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
The story of how my dad gets this reel is interesting. Trade it with another fisherman on the river for a 10 kilo catfish. Man wanted to buy fish, but my father told him that gives it only for reel.
Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
The photo wouldn't appear with the quote but here is a similar circular tin box that Joe showed a few pages back - and the question was regarding whether it was a fly box...FRJ wrote:Here is a nice old KACH MOR spoon and some really nice Mustad hooks and some very nice leaders.
I meant to post this but forgot - those circular tin boxes were for storing silk gut leaders (and of course a great place to throw some flies to dry as well but not designed for that purpose) - as I mentioned before silk gut is like plastic when not wet and to make them flexible one needs to soak them in water.. in order to store the gut leaders these circular boxes were popular... here's mine and it was labeled Leader Box ..

Good posts, Lee.
Have any of you ever done any trolling? ..... No, yeah ....... real trolling.
The old timers (All gone now) were big trollers back in the day around the Pacific Northwest.
lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho is/was a trollers paradise. My uncle, Leo Keener, took many huge Lake Trout out of there in the 50s and 60s. Some folks said Leo probably broke records but Leo never cared for that stuff.

Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
Thank you, Richard.
Actually I find your home made floats are far more interesting.
What beautiful work you did on them. They are very nice.
I certainly appreciate hand made items.
I used floats sometimes when I fished. I used a brand name "Thill" that you can buy here. Roughly on the same order of the earlier floats. I never used those plastic bobbers.

Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
Well, I agree with everyone else: those floats are beautiful, Richard. It would seem a shame to flip one out into a pond, but I guess with the varnish coating the mud and pollen would wash off.

Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
thank you all for your kind words, i started making these as a child ,to use , when i could not afford store bought ones.
a freind who owns a store . "the outpost" selling out doorsman things . ask me to make some, to sell in the store.
he used to order some once. a month. they sold quite well, untill he had to shut the store.
i still make them to use.and give to freinds, and sell a few at the local market.
here are some ready for the next market.

Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
i find old cigar box's . and make some floats to fit in the box. these sell well as xmas . and fathers day gifts.
Re: ANTIQUE FISHING
Excellent Richard - the colored wraps really make them gems ... Cigar boxes make really nice boxes - I use them myself for lots of different things, and I don't even smoke cigars
