Great Movie Quotes

Post by jerryd6818 »

Movies have had some great quotes in them. Some that have become part of our American language and some that get repeated over and over to the point many of us forget they are from a movie and where they came from.

"Stella"
"Here's lookin' at you kid"
"These two youts"
"My brother's a genius, eh. He built his own stereo."
"Come on meat. Bring that weak a**** s***."
"Make my day"
"We'll always have Paris"
"I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
"Shane! Come back Shane!"
"That's not a knife. This is a knife."
"I want my two dollars." (Better Off Dead 1985)
"you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall"
"The truth? You can't handle the truth"
etc, etc, etc.

Come on, give it a whirl
Forged on the anvil of discipline.

Gonna rip these walls out and of course re-wire it.

You gonna make it all 220?

Yeah, 220, 221. Whatever it takes.

Anyone know the movie?

Eastwood was great, but we probably remember Eastwood better because he's more recent. But IMHO Mae West was the all time best. The actual quote you referenced (she was speaking to a policeman) "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

A few more:

'I'll get you my pretty; and your little dog, too!'

'When you get that damn dog in the truck, you can put the hammer down,
'cause by that time, that smokey will have gone by you!'

One of my personal favorites, from Peter Lorre in The Maltese Falcon. Lorre, playing the little tough guy, has a gun pointed at Bogart. Bogart manages to punch Lorre in the face (knocking him out) and takes his gun.

Next scene, Lorre comes to, opens his eyes to see Bogart pointing the gun between his eyes from close range. Lorre looks around assessing his situation, then looks down at himself.

"You got blood on my shirt."

"...a man's got to make a living"...
..."dyin' ain't much of a living boy."

"We gonna bury them fellers?"
"To hell with them fellers, buzzards gotta eat too, same as worms.."

"When I get to likin' someone they ain't around much longer...:
"...seems to me when you get to dis-likin' someone they ain't around much longer neither.."

"...whupped 'em again, didn't we Josie?.."
"Yep, whupped 'em again boy, whupped 'em again."

" In my line of work a man's gotta be able to sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic, or whistle Dixie with equal enthusiasm, dependin' on present company of course."

"You gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?"

"Not a hard man to track, leaves dead men wherever he goes"

"All I got is this here piece of hard rock candy, but it ain't for eatin', it's just for lookin' through"

Tombstone had some great lines - maybe as many or more than any movie. Here's just a few.

I have two guns. One for each of you.

Why Johnny, I apologize. I forgot you were there. You may go now.

He's down by the creek, walkin' on water.

Tell them the law's coming. You tell them I'm coming, and hell's coming with me!

I just wanted to let you know, you're in my chair.

Maybe poker's not your game, Ike. I know, lets have a spelling contest!

And you must be Ringo. Look darling, Johnny Ringo, the deadliest pistolero since Wild Bill, they say. What do you think darling, should I hate him? Yes, there's something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of......me. Now, I'm sure of it, I hate him.
