As always is the case at this time of year there is a lot of conjecture, chest pounding and general fanaticism going on in the SEC which by the way is one of the reasons that make this such an enjoyable sport to watch and follow IMHO. Since the arrival of King Saban in Tuscaloosa, Al. The question at the beginning of each season is always "Can Anybody beat Bama?" What an impressive run he has had there. National titles out the yingyang and a steady flow of players in to the NFL. If you are a fan of one of the also rans Which is the category that I fall into this time of the year is filled with hope and anxious anticipation the likes of which no other sport compares. So I can barely wait for Sept. 2nd. And one more thing:

8) Can Anybody beat Alabama??? If I'm not mistaken, last year in the first ever national title game rematch, Alabama would fall to Clemson, 35-31. In the closing seconds of the game.

Very true Mitch but in the SEC that has been the constant Quest. We've got a Texas boy at QB this year that may give us a leg up. :D

Now that's what I'm talkin' about, Ray! ::handshake:: Our ball team might not be the best (I know, I played my last games with 'em in a down year before getting hurt) but you can be sure he's gonna get a world-class engineering education. ::tu::

Let him know that a proud Tech alumnus has a question for him: "What's the good word?"

If he responds with ANYTHING but "To hell with Georgia!" make sure you haze him but good. ::nod::

Ferg I wrote off the NFL last year. As long as they tolerate that garbage I'm not going to support them in any way including my viewership.

Tony I'm thinking Ga. Tech might surprise some people this year. The practice footage I've seen looks pretty good. We'll find out today! ::tu::

In college ball do point differentials still count in the determination of ranking? Reason I ask is Penn State ran up the score on Akron 50 something to 0 and I thought that this may have been the reason. I'm a fan of Penn State but that wasn't necessary unless it mattered in rankings or some other esoteric thing at NCAA.

Score differential, or number of points put up on a tough opponent regardless of differential, often have a big impact on the human polls (AP, maybe not so much for the coach's) so it all figures into the calculus used to determine the final playoff spots.

It seems like the NCAA managed to deliver a playoff system that is every bit as complicated and maddening as the BCS system it replaces. ::hmm::

Oh well. Either way, can't wait for Monday night against the Vols. Big big test right at the beginning of the year. Of course, we go in as the home field dogs, but that's just fine with me. GO JACKETS!
