It's been 3½ years since the last post and we've gained several new members since then. It's been so long that we've had several "flash powder" members. Gone but not forgotten. If you haven't posted your military service, I invite you to do so.
Many thanks and much respect to all who have served.

Will dig some stuff out this week, it’s packed somewhere here .jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 3:46 pm Dig 'em out and post 'em up. Tell us something about your tour of duty if you want to.
Here’s a couple of non Authorized patches
My old field jacket has the Air Assault wings ,blown up by a off post tailor/ laundry place. Lot of us spotted these off post . We were all ,young ,green , FNG s and had to show off a little
Years later a lot of our Airborne/ Air Assault units would sport the Saint Michael patch . Wearing this patch was not liked by some of the REMFs but that was just too bad . The soft cap was last overseas deployment, and should look familiar to some .
Jerry ,believe I did give a little bio on the other Veterans thread, can’t remember name of thread though .
Neat thread, nice walk back down memory lane.

Over to Europe and elsewhere till 81 then Lebanon , till 83, then back to Campbell,Bragg, ,bunch of stateside stuff till 90 ,then oversea ,then ended with operation Storm and Shield ,back stateside and home. Even managed to keep my most of my stripes, other than When first Sergeant and I got into it over a girl in a Off limits place outside of Campbell. Did walk away as E 7 ,can live with that.

It's been over a year since the last post and we've had several new members join us since then. I encourage new members to give us a view of your military service if that fits you.

Well Jerry I don't think I ever posted anything here and I haven't seen any Navy entries.
So here are some of my command patches and my rank insignia and wings.

You're right, I kind of jumped around looking instead of going though all of them. I did go back and find yours and I enjoyed reading your comments. I haven't posted anything like that up until now because I'm just about finished with my autobiography that I plan to publish primarily for my family. It includes mostly my naval career but it has a lot of family genealogy and we seem to have a number of folks that are really into that in a big way.zzyzzogeton wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 4:54 pmYou must have given up before you got to page 5 of posts -that's where my contribution to the thread resides.

Re: Your Unit Emblem or Patch
Sadly, I did not keep my ribbons or medals...I wasn't thinking ahead to the future back in 98 of writing my autobiography for my daughters.
So, I searched and searched for Challenge Coins or Patches for a shadow box that represents all my duty stations, ranks, etc. I found a Zumwalt coin I added, for he was the CNO (Chief of Naval Operations) during my tenure from 1970-1974. Anyway...here's what I've done for my daughters.

They're listed on your DD-214. You can buy them any number of places online.
BTW, excellent show case.

Re: Your Unit Emblem or Patch
I just read this whole thread again and noticed I stated I had trained for “forty-eight months” to become an SF Medic.
That should have been forty-eight weeks.
Sorry.
Cannot correct the post.

Obviously not my photo, but this would have been my unit patch.

Re: Your Unit Emblem or Patch
A bit of an aside: My great uncle, Michael Szczech (Sash for simplicity) was a US NAVY aircraft mechanic in Le Croisic, France, 1817-1919. He worked on US planes, British Sopwith's, French Spad's, etc. I inherited all his war souvenirs. Among his stuff is a collection of unit crests/insignia that were popular swapped items among the personnel. Average size= half dollar to Silver dollar. They were put on homemade belts that probably were sold as kits. As you will see the belt has long since fallen to pieces but the crests are in great shape. Some are British, Scottish, Canadian, and Australian. There doesn't seem to be many WW1 collectors; at least at the military shows I've attended. Anyway I thought maybe they'd be appropriate in this thread. It'd be nice to pair them up with some cool, period issue knives from Britain.
Enjoy. J.O'.

Thanks Jerry, David and Dan.
Jerry...yeah, I could have spent a week trying to locate my DD-214's to see what I would need, but I decided to stay lazy and shop Amazon for the coins / patches. It was more comfortable and less headache.
