THE OFFICIAL AAPK WEATHER THREAD - HOWS YOUR WEATHER TODAY ?

Post by gino »

I have often stopped and checked out the first cup thread as well as others and what I really enjoyed was hearing what the weather was where all the members lived , so I thought I would try and start the "How's your weather" thread.

Temps and even pics would be cool, what do you all think??? What temp is it when you get up , when your turning in for the night.

Well, I will start her off, its 12.46 am and *30 F here in Pittsburgh Pa with light snow a day before Christmas

LOL, *86 here would be a fairly hot one in the summer. *116 would be insane, I don't think folks around here could deal with that.

This is why I think this thread will be cool just seeing what people think is hot or cold is interesting.

In the winter we have a few frosts .The lowest I would say 20 F.The last time there was any snow was 1949 that was a year before I was born.We mainly only get snow on the eastern ranges in Australia (Great Dividing Range ) it runs from Queenland to Victoria.Australia is a dry place .
I live 260miles from the coast and have a 21 inch rainfall go another 60miles inland its 17 inches.At the moment I have had 12.5inches of rain this year so it fairly dry.Feeding live stock and the crop where hopeless.Being a farmer you think next year will be better.( I don't mind answering questions )

That is interesting to me, so have you never seen snow in person? It has snowed here this winter about a dozen times already. It can be a pain in the you know what to shovel. There is light snow and heavy wet snow.

I lived in Canberra for about 10 years it had light snow a couple of times.There were mountains about 30 mile away to the south they were covered in snow and the wind in Canberra had a chill factor of 21 F. ( It is only on the Snowy Mountains we get as cold as you do )
The cold winds come from the south to Australia were your's is from the north.

The temperature was around 70 here on Sunday but now has fallen back to normal. High in the mid 30s today upper 20s tomorrow, 505 chance of snow showers. We had about a foot of snow a week ago but the warm spell melted all of it. Here's what it looked like last Saturday night. BTW Gino, enjoy your two weeks off, I've got some time off as soon as I can get off work tonight.

It's warmed up to about 7 degrees here in eastern Nebraska, with a light wind of maybe 5-10 mph out of the south. Should get up to maybe 30-32 F this afternoon.

5F - 9C = 160 Kind of an easy way to convert either way. This is how I learned to convert a long time ago. There may be an easier way, don't know?? Just remember to change the +/- sign when you move number to other side of equation.

5F - 9 (31) = 160
5F - 279 = 160
5F = 279 + 160
5F = 439/5
F = 87.8

As for weather, haven't looked at temp. this morning but it is cold with a dusting of snow.

Startin' out this morning at 17 degrees with about a half inch of snow from last night. With the weather they're predicting for the next few days, 40's and 50's during the day and dropping into the teens overnight, we'll get fog rolling in off the lake. It settles and freezes on everything. Sure could be worse this time of year though, the persimmon seeds say it will be! ::smirk::

I don't get where the 160 came from. It just seems to have been plopped in out of nowhere.

Found this here -- http://math.about.com/od/formulas/a/temp.htm

C is Celsius
F is Farenheit

C = 5/9 [.55555] of (F-32)

I get this. Celsius temperature is 5/9ths [.555555] of Farenheit once you subtract the 32º difference between the Farenheit freezing temp. (32ºF) and the Celsius freezing temp (0ºC)

F = 9/5 [1.8] of (C+32)

Same,same only going the other way Farenheit is 9/5ths of Celsius and you have to add the 32º difference.

Let's try converting 68 degrees Farenheit to celsius 5/9(68-32)

Step 1: 68 less 32 is 36
Step 2: 5 divided by 9 is 0.5555555555555
Step 3: multiply the repeating decimal by 36
Step 4: your solution is 20

Now, convert 20 degrees Celsius to Farenheit to check your work.

9/5 C+32
Step 1: 9 divided by 5 is 1.8
Step 2: 1.8 multiplied by 20 is 36
Step 3: 36 plus 32 = 68

So tell me about the 160. Where did it come from and how did they get it?

8) 81 Here in Southern California today, supposed to be 82 tomorrow, Christmas Day. Even for us here that's unusual for December 25. I can't remember it ever being 82 on Christmas Here! ::shrug::

The sun is out today, but it is -12 degrees celcius (10 deg. farenheit), and with the wind chill it is - 21 degrees celcius (-5 farenheit) if I have my math right. These are the shots of the ice storm that passed through in the last couple of days. Lots of trees and power lines down, we are blessed to still have power...many are without.

23 degrees here in the WMD with a 16 mph wind, feels like 10. Had show showers off and on today but no ground cover, good thing Santa flies!
