It showed me his passion and competitiveness. That incident woke up the Cubs and they pounced on it! Lackey was dead right and sent a message to Ump Jordan Baker... At this point in the season, you cannot miss a pitch like that. There is too much on the line. Betcha he won't forget how important it is to get the pitch call correct.

I didn't say Lacky was wrong about the pitch. It was clearly in the zone. I do feel he was wrong in the way he reacted to it. He could have gotten the same message across to the Ump without throwing a tantrum. As for your other point, I guess I just don't understand baseball. Are you saying they may not have won without that little hissy fit? If they had lost, then what? Would the temper tantrum still be a positive thing?

Is expecting a grown man making a Brazillion dollars a year to act in a mature and rational manner, expecting too much?

I'm saying it was a catalyst to team emotion, rallying around a bad pitch call and "wronged" ejected players. Sports feeds on emotion, to feed higher performance. It was a spark, that lit the fire.

I like Lackey for this, he wears his emotions on his sleeve. Other players do it differently. You won't change John Lackey, WYSIWYG.

Just so you know, I'm not denigrating your position on the subject, nor am I attempting to change your mind. That would be foolish of me.

I know, we're cool! It's just a different perspective. If he did it all the time and made an ass out of himself, I'd feel differently. This is a rare case of him voicing his feelings at a much higher level than I've seen from him before. Usually he let's it go but this time he didn't.

Willy went over the top with throwing his mask down and it happened to touch the ump's leg on the bounce. That wasn't good. But Willy got ignited from the ump ejecting Lackey. This wasn't a border of the strike zone debatable pitch call... it was almost right down the middle and Baker missed it! That was what was so contentious.

Sweeping the Mets was good but there is something that's just so much more satisfying about sweeping the Cardinals.

There are 13 games remaining. 10 of them on the road. 8 of the road games are with the Brewers & Cards, 4 and 4, back to back.

It ought to be interesting.

Another win... Montgomery pitched great! and the bullpen didn't screw it up.

Montgomery is getting his act together. Good to see.

Phils are in the process of taking 2 from the Dodgers. 6 to 3 bottom of the 8th. Hoskins hits a 3 run dbl with bases loaded in the 7th. Not over yet though. Beat Kershaw last night.

And they aren't the worst team in baseball now, that honor belongs to the Giants.

There was an article in this mornings paper sports section on the topic the concern of the MLB about all the home runs being hit and the very high number of K's compared the the last couple of years. Their concern seemed to be less action on the field like the sac bunt, hit and run, the stolen base. I can see their concern. They say the balls are within spec. They make the claim that pitchers throw harder and batters are goin' for it. They provided the numbers to back it up.

And Phils win. 61 wins on the season and counting.

Maybe MLB is watching the wrong teams. I've seen a much better mix this year of Cubs hitters scoring on the long ball and small ball. Even though Joe isn't a fan of the bunt, there's been more sacrifice bunting and bunting for a hit this year than any I can remember. Yes, there are a lot of pitchers who's fastball is up in the mid-90s or above but there are some very effective pitchers who's heater lives down around 90 (think Kyle Hendricks).

Know what I've seen more of this year? Hit batters and bats getting away from the batter and flying into the stands. And the past couple or three years, shattered bats. More is my impression.

Maybe MLB is correct but why bring it up. As long as the players aren't juicin', it's not like there's anything they can do about it. Barring outside influences, the game is gonna be what the game is gonna be.

Wow! The Phillies gonna sweep the Dodgers?

I've seen the same as you watching the Phillies. Until lately, small ball is all they had. I think hit batsmen and bats that get away are one of those things that happen in streaks Jerry. I watch one game a night max or less so I can only go by that.

They're playing tonite so maybe. Jake Thompson for the Phils has been pretty good his last couple of starts. Wood for the Dodgers. Should be a good game.

And it has been nice to watch Chase Utley play. Got another standing O last night. Prolly get one tonight too.

Phils sweep out those Dodgers, 7 to 5. Nice catch by Herrera against the wall to nail it down. Phils score 2 in the 8th to break a tie.

Congratulations. That's quite an achievement.

Thanks Jerry. After watching this team over the last month and a half, I can't wait to see what next year brings.

Pirates beat Milwaukee today. BIG four game series starts tomorrow night between the Cubs and the Brew Crew.

Cubs must have shipped their bats to Milwaukee a day early. Lost to Tampa Bay, 1-8.

I was mis-informed, not an unheard of thing with me. The Phils did not sweep last night. An afternoon game today. 2 2 tie mid game. Not entirely a bad thing.

The Dodgers took one, 5 to 4. At Atlanta tomorrow night.

WOW!!! What an exciting win by the Cubs in extra innings! Worth staying up for. Down to our last out in the 9th and Javy comes through and we tie the game. KB in the 10th, 2 run dinger. Davis closes them out.

As my mother used to say, "There's many a slip twixt the cup and the lip." There are 9 games left, 6 of them against either the Brewers or the Cardinals. We'll know more about who's playing who on October 1st.

I don't think my heart can take too many more of the games like last night and tonight. Tonight, I think Milwaukee shot themselves in the foot when they gave out that free pass in the 10th.
