Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Bingo! One of my bucket list items was seeing a game at Fenway. Got a tour of the ballpark in the afternoon and then took in the Rangers and Red Sox game last night. We were able to get tickets through the Rangers along with about 150 other fans from Texas. The Red Sox put us all up in the nosebleed section. And then they proceeded to beat us with a few cheap shots off that "green monstah" wall, that would have been easy outs in any other field. ::facepalm:: Boston is a really good team this year.

Greg, I'm surprised you didn't pick up on that big Samuel Adams beer sign!

Ha Ha ha,that was my second thought Ken after I noticed you only showed the right field side. The green monster would have given it away. ::tu::

All Star festivities kicked off yesterday in DC. A BIG bag of money is required for participation so even though I'm less than 10 miles away I'll be watching on tv. ::skeptic::

Stayed up until the last dog died last night. Game ended up going 10 innings. Rolled into the rack about 0100 (that would be 2 bells for the squids on board). Cubs won 5-4 and once again are tied with the Brewers for 1st place in the National League Central Division.

Watch the Home Run Derby or not? What's your reason either way? I'll watch a little and read a little because there's nothing else on TV at this time of year.

Why no Giancarlo Stanton or Aaron Judge this year, you ask?

"I don't think so," Stanton said Sunday in regard to his potential participation. "Don't want to; I've done it plenty of times. Take a year off, take two years off, if I want."

"This year we've got something special going. I kind of said I'm not going...and I want to stay healthy," Judge added.

Bryce Harper seems to be the odds on favorite to win it.

I like the way the Braves started the second half 8-5 over the Nats but the Phillies are looking fierce. ::nod::

I'll tell ya Greg, last nights game didn't start out very well. The Pods up 4 to 0 going into the 2nd inning. We had visitors and didn't see the remainder. Saw this morning they (Phillies) won by a large margin. Arrietta had one of those nights, they saw his ball very well ad knocked him out.

Given the pre-season predictions, Phillies fans should be excited for what we've got. My expectations have been raised. ::tu::

If there's one thing I've learned from being a Cubs fan it's that if you get your hand slapped often enough reaching for the cookie jar, you become very careful about reaching for the cookie jar.

Watching the Cards and Cubs game, Cubbies just went ahead.

The broadcast team was talking about the Cards and how they weren't used to looking up the divisional standings list and finding anyone above them. As they were yakkin', the camera showed the NL divisonal pennants above the centerfield scoreboard arranged by team position for each division in the NL. These were hung from a yardarm type mast. I thought this was pretty cool. Had never noticed it before. Another reason to like that ball park. ::tu::

Well, now it's in the 9th and the Birds are up 6-3. As is usual, they're going to split this double header. Cubs need to win tomorrow to win the series.

You didn't jinx 'em Tommy. Joe was dumb enough to pitch to Carpenter even after he hit 4 home runs in that blow out the night before. At that, it might not have been a blow out on Friday night had he just walked him every time he came to bat. No way of knowing of course but I'm a firm believer that hitting begets more hitting.

Anyone else collect bobbleheads? Current collection, a few to add yet this year. I feel like this is a lost season for the Nats and next year will be Harper-less.

That's a nice collection redrider but I can't see a Jayson Werth bobblehead. I only have one a Placido Polanco figure when he played for the Phillies the second time.

The Phils stepped up to the plate and signed a player from the Mets, Asdrubal Cabrera. Should work out very good if he keeps on doing what he does. And a big plus is the Phils have a name to go with Odubel Herrera. The media guys should be paid extra.

Hamels was a big-time performer for the Rangers. I saw they were something like 58-24 in games he started for them the past 4 years (he didn't get a decision in many of those games). This year though he has been either great or terrible - one game he goes 7 innings giving up only one run, the next game he gets shelled and can't last two innings. ::shrug:: Still has a devastating change up but he's lost some velocity on the fastball so there's not as much difference between them as there was. Hopefully he has something left for the Cubs, he's a gamer and a first class human being who's great in the community.

Cubs owe the Rangers big-time though, after dumping rentals Garza and Dempster on them for the likes of Kyle Hendricks, Carl Edwards Jr., Justin Grimm, and a couple others that have done pretty well for the Cubbies. Garza and Dempster the Dumpster were pretty much busts for Texas. ::dang:: Sorry to see Hamels go but hopefully the Rangers got something useful this time.

I remember Matt Garza but don't recall how he performed for the Cubs. However I do remember that when Dempster the Dumpster moved into a starter role he did pretty well. It was as a reliever where he floundered. I haven't kept up with him so I don't know how he performed nor what role he filled once he moved on.

One Werth bobblehead is facing backwards behind the frontline Zimmerman in the bottom picture. There's another Werth buried in the middle and I have one of the Werth Gnomes too, I keep it at home. Do an eBay search on the gnome, they used to be in high demand, a buddy sold 2 for over $400 each. ::uc::
