Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
Great game tonight. I thought da Bums were gonna win it, until they brought in Fields to pitch. I didn't even know he was with LA. The past couple of years when Fields was with the Lastros, the Rangers beat him mercilessly. I figured that's why Houston got rid of him. So when he entered the game tonight I said to my wife, the Lastros may have a chance yet. Sure enough he was true to form - think he gave up 2 runs and didn't get an out!
Then LA brought in McCarthy, who pitched for the Rangers a few years ago,- IIRC they got him from the White Sox. He spent most of the time with the Rangers on the DL but when he wasn't hurt he was horrible. I didn't know LA had him either. And tonight he also was true to form.
Too bad those guys didn't pitch against the Cubs. We might be watching Chicago and Houston instead.

Houston was destined to win that one last night but you have to give the Dodgers a great big 'E' for effort. Kept me up later than I would have wished for.

Rootin' for the underdog this time around so was very pleased with the Houston win last night. I asked my son, who lives in Houston, if the folks down there are very excited about the World Delirious. He said if Houston wins, they will tear that town apart. I assume that was a euphemism to show how excited they are.

Did you stop watching when the Nat's went down? If they had won instead of the Cubs, I would have been rooting for them as long as they lasted.1967redrider wrote:Baseball??? What's that???

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
Well Jerry, the Cubs lasted longer that the Nats would have. But I was surprised Dusty Baker isn't getting invited back for the All-Stat season. Surprised the Yankees gave Girardi the boot too, rumor has it he could be coming to DC but that's not good in my opinion. No feelings for the Astros or Dodgers so I haven't been watching.

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
Well, the Dodgers' Yu Darvish got spanked last night, while McCullers and Peacock combined for a good night.
I was happy to see a couple of former Braves do well. I hated to see McCann get traded from the Braves to the Astros, but he's doing well there. I think he got at least two hits last night.
Dodgers will have a chance to tie the series tonight, because Charlie Morton (ERA = 6.23 in the postseason) is pitching for the Astros.

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
I am not a big Baseball fan, although I have at times watched the playoffs and World Series in the past.
I love the history more than the current games.
Being a current California resident, yes, I am rooting for the Dodgers. After seeing the Astros pitching and hitting last night it's no wonder they are on their way to a World Series ring.
I also like to see a team that has never won the World Series come in first place.
The Houston Astros did not win a World Series in their first 55 years as an MLB franchise.
In season 56, the Astros are playing in only their second World Series since their debut in 1962.
In 2004, Houston fell a game short of making it to the World Series, and then in 2005, the team made its first appearance in the Fall Classic. The Astros were swept by the Chicago White Sox in that series.
Therefore, I am a winner, regardless who wins.

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
I turned it off after the 1st inning. When I checked the score this morning, I went WHAAAA ???. That was a pivotal game for the series. I would be surprised if the Dodgers manage to win the next two games. Of course a larger deficit than that was overcome last year so.......... Ya gotta play 'em all to find out.

Could this be the day that the ASTROS win their first World Series ever?
Of course I wouldn't count either of these teams out with only a one-run difference and four more innings to go!

And now the Astros are trailing the Dodgers 1-2 in the top of the 7th. With these two teams, Yogi was never more right. "It ain't over till it's over".

These two teams should just keep playing until someone wins two games more than the other. I'll keep watching.

It was indeed a great World Series. Congratulations to Houston and their long-suffering fans!
Guess I can't call them the Lastros any more. At least not until next season starts - I still can't stand them!
