On to St Louis tomorrow night for a four game series followed up by three with the Reds at home. Go get 'em troops.
Yeah baby! Quintana looked great! What a relief to not have to use the bullpen today.

Now, they have to execute at St Louis and then back at Wrigley. One game at a time.

half way through, Cubs are up 8-1 over the Cards and Lester is looking good.

10-2 final. All systems functioning normal.

The Phils beat the Nats! Neris strikes out the side in the top of the 9th including Zimmerman and Werth.

The significant thing to this fact other than the W is now the Phils can't loose 100 games this year. ::tu::

Signs of a turn around? Maybe.

Jerryd the alternative sucks. I can't maintain grumpy for very long.

Actually the Phils have been at about 500 since the break. It's encouraging. :)

While the Cubs fans gave a lot of failed history to carry around, consider that the Phildelphia Phillies have the most loses by a team over the life of the franchise. You can look it up. Talk about failed history.

Cubs beat the Red Birds 5-1 and clinch the division. In the playoffs for the third season in a row. Who are these guys? Can we lay all this success at the feet of Joe Maddon? ::shrug::

For several months I've been saying "they may go on to post season play" and then after the All-Star break, "they'll probably go on to post season play" but I've always said "if they get in, they're not going to go anywhere in the post season". Time will tell and I'm okay with being wrong on this one.

Jerry, congratulations to the Cubs! Joe Maddon is one of the best, if not the best, managers in MLB. However having said that, IMHO if you finish at or near the bottom of the league for enough years, and have semi-competent scouting, a rise to the top tier is inevitable.

The true test of management, both on-field and front office, is how long they can stay in the top tier. Free agency makes it far tougher than it used to be IMHO.

ol' "Rabid Dog" Lackey did ok last night. Don't know if you heard but that was probably is last ever, regular season start.

After all the celebrating last night in the visiting team's club house at Busch Stadium, I hope they are in reasonable enough shape to play tonight's game. Four games to play, it would be nice to get a few more wins and have over 90 W's for the regular season.

I had not heard that about Lacky.

Back on 1-21-16 based on the 2015 season, I predicted the cubs would get 101 wins. They got 103. My buddy predicted 92 wins.
On 1-9-17 I predicted they would get 90 wins. (proof below) and with one more game in St. Louis and three in Cincinnati, it looks like they will get at least 91 games. (They are currently at 89 wins)

We will see.

I have a rooting interest in the Cubs. Joe's family lives about 40 north of me. There's that and then when I consider who the other teams in the running are in the NL: Dodgers(NOT), Nats(NOT) well you get the idea. ::barf::

In the AL I'd like to see the Tribe do well, but don't really care too much. Phils are off tonite.

Tony, the Phils did their part, 2 of 3 earlier this week.

And yes, that is a valid rooting interest in my book. One of my favorites in fact.

Wait til next year!

Now that the playoffs have been pretty much decided (except for Milwaukee/Denver and Boston/Yankees) does it seem to you like everyone's playing their second string and either resting the first line troops or checking out talent for next year?

No way that the Phils or the Mets would be beating the Nationals if they were running all of their starters out there.

Well Harper has been hurt. I think he played in the last game with the Phils, didn't do much.

I can't understand what they're thinking by letting Pete Mackannin go after this season. What a shame.

I'm listening to the Phils/Mets game on TV. Broadcasting tonite is Tom McCarthy doin play by play, Mike Schmidt and John Kruk doing color. Kruk just basically said the modern players are p+++ssies and need their hands held when they go 0 25. He won't last long on TV and that would be a shame. I love his take on this stuff.

The Cubs are the best batting baseball team, post all-star break. Pretty interesting.

Indians are the best in pitching.

Phils win their last for 2017 11 to 0 over the Mets. Nick Williams hit an inside the parker. Noah S for the Mets looked good for 2 innings. Threw a few 100 mph fastballs.

My beloved Redlegs finished with a 90+ loss year for the third straight season.

The glory years of the Big Red Machine are but a distant memory.

All you guys that have teams going on thru the play-offs, root your teams on.

For me, I'll be watching Andy Griffith re-runs!

My bride and I are watching the AL wild card game. I can not believe the size of Aaron Judge, the guy is a very big man! Wonder what he was eating all those years. 52 homers this year so he can play some too. :D

I don't know about surprised but I'm pleased with the results so far. Very happy that the Indians had that big comeback and then hung on to beat the Yankees. Of course Hendricks performance yesterday put a smile on my face.

If the Indians don't put the hated Yankees down like dogs then the whole Jay Bruce trade will have been for naught. :x
