They've cut the lead almost by half in the past two weeks - 5-1/2 games back now. Hoping they can keep the Lastros at least in sight for a few more weeks. Rangers should get Beltre back in a couple of weeks, Gomez back mid-to-late June, and Ross and Hamels back around the All-Star break. It'll be like making a blockbuster deal at the trade deadline, without giving up anything!

Didn't know Milwaukee had a football team, Jerry. :o

Hoping the Nats can get back on track but I think it's going to require some trading. We have no long relief so if a starter is having an off outing it's as good as a loss. Can't expect the bats to put up 10 runs every game either.

During the season, they rent one.

Wow! Cold rainy night and the Cubs still won 4-1. Still doing it with the long ball though. Schwarber, Heyward and Rizzo went long. Rizzo's was a 2 run shot and Schwarber put his out on Sheffield Avenue. Lester went the distance and only gave up one. Quite a game.

Agree, they need more consistent short ball. Lester pitched brilliantly! Finally!

Ready to see what Hendricks can do tonight.

Butler and Montgomery did an outstanding job pitching today. I'd say, the key to the 5-1 win over the Giants. Especially Montgomery's performance.

The Cubs hitting is starting to come around. Zo is on a great batting improvement right now. We just need a few more Cubs to get on the same page. Like Addison Russell for example. Or Kyle Schwarber.

I am not staying up until midnight tonight. They'll just have to take on the Dodgers all on their own. Those west coast games are killers. Thankfully they only have one late start per series this trip.

Couldn't post about it at the time but    deGrom pitched 8 1/3rd lights-out innings yesterday.

That's one way to deal with a slumping bullpen! ::groove:: I was getting a little worried about this "We've gotta outscore 'em every game" thing.

Now we just need our other world-class pitchers to come back from injury. ::facepalm::

Oh well. Cespedes is back soon. If we can't stop you from scoring we'll just get twice as many runs. ::paranoid::

Sad day for fans of the Phillies, Jim Bunning #14 died late Friday night, 85 years old. Hall of Famer and Kentucky Congressman and Senator. Threw a perfect game against the Mets in 1964 on Father's Day, June 21, the season that almost was for Phillies fans. The year of the collapse. I was 12. A 6.5 game lead in the NL with 12 to play. Lost 10 in a row and St. Louis won the NL pennant by a game. :(

The Phils are playing the Marlins in Miami. Its the end of May. The Phils are the worst team in baseball. ::facepalm::

Their hitters can't hit and their pitchers can't pitch but aside from that.... Can only go up from here. :D

Oh yeah its 2 to 0 in the third, the fish are up. Lotsa baseball left to play tonight. ::groove::

Mets are finding the most interesting and tragi-comic ways to give up a late leads... ::facepalm::

At some point we're going to have to go shopping for long relief... ::disgust::

The Rangers have some guys I'll send you. Cheap. They're very experienced at giving up late leads. In fact they've already blown at least 10 leads in the 7th inning or later. Maybe a change of scenery would do them good. ::facepalm:: How about we just swap ours for yours straight up? ::woot::

I know! you don't have to tell me. They can't even beat the Padres. This team, although talented, is too full of themselves and don't realize what it takes, day in and day out, to be a championship team.

Having had to wait since 1986 I can say I'd be plenty satisfied with another Series win...

Winning the pennant two years ago, however, definitely didn't fill me up. ::disgust::

Woo Hoo baby. Had me worried there for a while when Maddon brought Rondon in. They should buy Rondon and Strop a bus ticket.

Hector can have his off days, just like any other pitcher. He's had more good days, than bad this year. Pedro on the other hand.... SEE-YA!!

Tell you what, the bull pen worked hard last night. They did better than Kyle did, over the same number of innings. And... Happ had a good game at the plate.

Fish tonight... 7pm.

Strop is not a pitcher, he's a thrower or if you prefer a heaver. :x

Miami just swept Arizona. Let's see if the Cubs can return the favor at Wrigley.

But then, down out of the mountains with their armor shined bright and sporting a .610 winning percentage comes the Colorado Rockies. Let's see what they can do where the air is a little thicker.

I have a feeling that once it's in the history books, the Cub's June schedule is going to be a pretty accurate predictor of how their season will end up.
