Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

It was a nail biter but the Braves manage to take the Marlins 2-1 and secure the National league Eastern division pennant and a first round bye in the playoffs. Well done Bravos! ::ds::

Yanks & Indians tonight to decide that race. I'm more rooting against the Yanks than for the Indians.
Yea,yea, I know that it's the Guardians because for God's sake we can't have a team called the Indians. It might offend someone. Phooey!!!

I'm sure they pitch around the racoon, that's an impossible strike zone. 🤭

I believe the Lastros beat the damnYankees, not the Metropolitans. After Saint Louis and then Atlanta fell out, I’m not a fan of any team remaining in this year’s playoff circus, so haven’t watched any of it and probably won’t. The Cleveland Politically Corrects were the last team left that I had even a passing interest in.

If they want to pick the best team they’ll go back to the old pre-wildcard playoff structure. If instead they just want to create interest up to the last regular season games, do what they do now. Why not let just everybody play in their post-season “tournament”? ::shrug:: ::dang:: Since they’re obviously just in it for the $$$, that would generate the most $$$. ::nod::

I guess there is some intrigue left though - how are the Trashtros cheating this year??? ::shrug::

I like Dusty Baker, but I find it extremely hard to root for him, considering his team. The Astonomicals are definitely the team to beat, too much pitching and everything else .

I just read your comment John. I'm grin's out loud.

The Phils are in the WS! Pretty amazing after watching them this year. When you're hot..... ::tu::

Was not impressed with the TV coverage by Fox Sports. Did not identify how the wind was blowing, didn't show or mention any defensive alignments. You would have thought the pitcher and batter were the only show to see. TBS looks pretty much the same.

What do the Texas Rangers fans out there think of the hiring of Bruce Bochy as manager? He has a good track record, but will it translate to Texas? What player moves are likely?

So far Rangers fans seem excited about the Bochy hire. Of course you always have some who will complain about anything, especially in these days where getting on social media and being an idiot is in vogue - the bigger idiot you are the more attention you get. ::facepalm::

As far as translating to Texas I’m not sure what you’re asking. The players are from all over the country, they just play in Texas. So the clubhouse make-up isn’t any different in Texas than anywhere else. As for the fans here they will respond to winning and losing, pretty much like elsewhere. And like elsewhere the manager gets more of the credit or blame than he deserves either way. (Lousy players? Fire the manager!). The GM, Chris Young, is a native Texan who pitched for Bochy at San Diego. He’s the one who hired Bochy if that tells you anything.

As for player moves, the Rangers have a pretty good offensive team already. Their pitching sucks! They have a deep and talented farm system, especially middle infielders. They’re stacked several layers deep in young, talented infielders from high A to Triple A. Some are MLB ready and played for the Rangers this year at times, filling in at 3rd base (and looking good) when Jung was injured. They already have Seager and Semien in the majors and signed to megabucks contracts for the next several years. Plus a very good hitting first baseman (Lowe) and an apparent budding star (Jung) at third, and two good catchers. Did I mention their pitching sucks? ::dang::

So I look for the Rangers to trade some of those infielders for pitching, and maybe a big power outfield bat. Of course the fans, at least the lesser-educated “spout-off” contingent, want the owners to spend big bucks signing pitchers. DeGromm, Verlander, Rodon, etc. are the names being thrown about by the usual social media pundits. Maybe they will spend some but I’m more inclined to believe the Rangers don’t need all those young infielders, and some teams are going to covet them. JMO

More than you wanted to know, I’m sure!

Their performance to date certainly illustrates that Ken. Fun to watch last night taken as a whole. The first three innnings, not so much. Pitching matched up pretty well I thought. Should be even more entertaining tonight.

I've got plenty of former Reds that helped make most every playoff series a little more interesting.

Now Baker is the Astro's manager and Castellanos is on the Phillies. Seattle had 3 Reds and the Padres 1, and I'm probably missing someone.
