Coyotes are peculiar critters. Most of the time a man on foot scares them off, as fast as they can go. Occasionally though they’re curious and will watch you. But a man on horseback, or a man on a tractor doesn’t scare them. They’ll usually just go about their business and pay you no attention. Pretty easy shot if you stay in or on the tractor. If they see you get out of the cab they’re gone before you can get the rifle to your shoulder!

What type of rifle do you carry when on the tractor and how far/close are you normally shooting?

Used to be a 30-30 Marlin but a couple of years ago I picked up a 5.56 Mossberg MVP with a cheap Tasco 3-9 x 40 scope. Nothing fancy but gets the job done. Shots vary from 50 to 200 yards. Farther than that, I don’t shoot - can’t see that well any more!

Yep I thought a 22 mag Henry would fun and handy with open sights. Afraid those days are gone for my eyes. Scopes for me too. Although the Tascos hold up really good for me and I don't have to worry about beating them up.

What will the main species be that you will be targeting? Or just whatever you can catch?

The kids will be after Bass and white perch..I'll fish for trout and salmon.All of us will fish for hornpout at nite.

I had to look up hornpout and Wiki went thru a fairly long description which wound up by saying it is a 'mud cat'. I feel smarter now.

My 15 year old, Jackson, is eat up with the trapping bug. When he goes to set his traps, he carries his traps, lure, etc in a 5 gallon bucket. Well it got to where he didn’t have enough hands so unbeknownst to me he just went out tot the shop, raided my nuts and bolts bucket, cut up and old belt, took the drill and made himself a trapping bucket backpack.

It ain’t the Mona Lisa I know, but I’m pretty proud. He saw a problem, looked at the materials on hand, and made solution that works.

Cool fishing gear, Garddogg. Just a couple of days ago I was doing some clearing in the the garage and came across a Daiwa reel that I had not seen in over twenty years. I was pretty surprised that it still worked perfectly! Seems like fishing gear, and especially tackle boxes, can be a real time capsule.

Colonel - it is just great to see a teenage boy interested in the outdoors instead of video games!

Scott pics to come..Dan that Diawa I just found as is the little USA Zebco in the back of my garage both were my son and daughters from the 80's the mincota Diehart motor and net are from the 90's,and I put old Imperial shell fishing knives in the tackle box.Should be a good time up ta camp :DiI had to modify one to pink for my Granddaughter.

The boys and I went walking through the back field to see the progress that the goats are making clearing this place up. Just a bit of clarification on the pics, the big brush pile you’ll see, we couldn’t see a month ago. It was covered with vegetation.

Oh, and the blackberries are getting ripe too!

Do you beat on the bucket to call her up or does she just stand around lookin' hungry and you feed her?
You sure had some fine antlers coming up in the yard last year. We are watching, with a game camera, several different bucks growing their antlers this year. I'll get busy and share some pictures maybe tomorrow after church.
Love to see the critters whether on camera or in person.

We've been watching several different groups of young bucks grow their antlers this season. Here are the latest pictures of them:

This little feller is a yearling, he is usually with his mamma.

These two will be 2 years old this season. they are still with a doe.

We've been hearing reports of several Red Foxes being seen in the community. I know one of these is a coyote but not quite sure about the other one. What do y'all think?

When I first glanced at it I thought fox, that’s what it’s head looks like. But looking closer at the body, I’m not sure either.

I think we are looking at coyotes. Degree of certainty = 0
