What's Currently on Your Reading List?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Yeah, he might do. Depends on how good he is as an actor. Ahh but they didn't ask us so we're probably stuck with Top Gun.

I like cooking, among many other things, and I am always looking for good instructional books.
This is one I'm currently reading.

The Russell Shorto book I read a few years ago now, but remember it as a great read. So I recomend that for you history lovers. While not true history, it's an accurate story.

Currently re-reading Louis L'amour westerns as my go-to-bed reading.

The last "serious" book I read was Empire of the Summer Moon, by S C Gwynne. a really good history of Quanah Parker and the Comanches. Really, REALLY well-written and researched.

I read most of Louis L'amour's books in college. It was a nice break from textbooks. Now I read knife related material and science fiction when I can find a good writer that I haven’t read all of their stuff. I don’t read fantasy or dragons, just ‘hard sci fi.’
I also read theologically based works from time to time. One of my favorite writers is Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Growing up without electricity I learned to read. Reading, working and hunting were my main forms of entertainment as a kid.

I did not like Dune. For me the book was as dry as the sands in which the story was set.

:) I made it through the first book in the series. Bailed out early in the second book. Never went near the third book. I thought it was just me.

Just finished Skeletons on the Zahara by Dean King...about the loss of the US Brig Commerce off the western shore of Africa in 1815, and the subsequent enslavement of it's crew by Arabs in the Sahara desert...pretty intense re-counting of a true story, those men were made to suffer for certain. I like reading stories of survival, nautical stories, historical fiction and non-fiction. One of my favorites is The Sea Wolf by Jack London, read that one many a time.

Edgar Rice Burroughs Mars series is on my to find and reread list. I went to my favorite use sci-fi bookstore and found only a single copy of one of the approximately 15 books in that series. I guess everybody else had the same idea since the John Carter movie comes out tomorrow.

I recently finished a book by Stephen King titled 11/22/63. It is about a guy who has a chance to go back in time and stop the JFK asassination.

I don't like all his writing, but I really enjoyed this book. He even manages to wrap characters from a previous book into this one!

I also enjoyed his Dark Tower series.

I will soon finish "Empire of the summer moon", suggested by Cowboy on Dec. 12th.
Very good history and apparently well researched.
If you like North American indian history and history of the early American West this book is calling to you.
The book cost something like $7.00 at Alibris.

Joe,

I read Empire of the Summer Moon when it first came out a year or so ago. Outstanding read. I was born and raised in the Fort Worth area. As a child on family vacations, while driving up through the Texas Panhandle to Borger to see my grandparents, my dad would point out the various Indian sites, like Medicine Mound, Palo Duro Canyon etc. That made the book that much more interesting for me.

I told him about it, and he read it as well - he said he enjoyed more than any book he has read in years.

I picked up the book "The Captured" as well. It's about whites who were taken captive by the Comanche and Apache during the 1860-70s in Texas. It's a good read too.
