Ditto the above. Have you fired it? What has been your experience with it, particularly regarding reliability? It is certainly a handsome gun.

In keeping with the handgun theme of the last page - here is a Ruger Carbine in a good wheelgun cartridge, the 44 MAG. Been deer hunting with it lately. OH

That is a cool rifle Bruce, I bet it puts a good whop on anything you hit. Wasn't that the predecessor to the 10/22, regarding similarities in design?

Ditto Camillus, on your comment, "I wish I still had mine". I bought my Ruger .44 carbine back in the late 60's and kept it for a year or so. It was a fun little carbine to shoot. I hunted with it one season back when we were running deer hounds, only killed a big bobcat with it. This was before I started keeping records of my gun trading activities, I'm pretty sure I traded it to a feller for a Browning .22 auto rifle and that one was manufactured by FN, wish I had kept that one too! ::teary_eyes::
Bruce, my Ruger had a Monte Carlo stock with iron sights. It would have been a lot easier to shoot with a scope mounted on it now that I think about it.

I like it because it is light and handy, but still has a good "whop" as Paul put it. This one has a very plain type stock (no Monte Carlo comb), quite similar to the original 10/22. I understand there were two generations of this carbine by Ruger (early and late) - this one was made in 1977 which is the second generation. I've seen first generation guns, they had grooved forends on the stock. I'm not sure if the 44 MAG Carbine came before or after the 10/22 Carbine. A buddy of mine owns a version that is a Levergun (44/96 I think). OH

Yehuda, I would still like to know your impressions of the American Tactical Sub-Compact if and when you get a chance to shoot it. The Ruger is some serious hardware. I particularly like that it has no forward grooves.

I bought the ATI Friday because it is a beauty and is nice and heavy, but over the weekend I read a lot of reviews and kept seeing the same thing over and over, it has problems with small components breaking and malfunctioning. When I took it to the range Sunday, I decided to not shoot it, took it back today and upgraded to the Ruger. Now, the ATI is really nice looking and priced at around $400, but honestly, it terrified me. I didn't want to be stuck with a gun I couldn't depend on.

Pros: It has a lifetime warranty and will most likely function properly for a while and looks terrific. It's also supposed to be very accurate.

Cons: It's a budget firearm and owners will most certainly be replacing parts prematurely.

I didn't particularly want to spend so much on a Ruger, but damnit, I trust it. If I were a decent gunsmith, I'd most likely have stuck with the ATI. Hope this is helpful.

I may be out of date about this but quite some time ago I read, more than once, that small .45s by just about any manufacturer will tend to jam. The cause of course was that with the shorter slide there was less time for the next round to get seated properly. However, it may be this issue has now been overcome by improved manufacturing in some way.

I've always been a rifle/shotgun guy and am just now getting into handguns. There are certainly affordable, very decent options I've found in .45cal. The reviews for the Springfield Armory, Ruger, Remington etc. in 45 are glowing. The .45 is it's own beast and as for my opinion, it's best to spend the money.

Now an update on the Tanfoglio. It's known to be a good brand, but they dropped the ball with the EA380. At the range, it jammed badly more than it fired, so I took it back as well. I hated to get rid of it. She is also a beauty. So my handguns consist of my Kimber 9mm for carry and the Ruger hand canon. Pistols are so expensive that this will probably be my only purchases for a while. :D

If I was in the market for a new 1911 I would buy the Ruger - they build their products like tanks and stand behind them - yours looks great and should shoot that way too. That said, the CMP is waiting on final instructions before putting the last US Issue 1911's up for sale - I want to get into their lottery for a Remington Rand - the brand that always was issued to me. OH

I read about that. I'd love to have a Colt but we'll see what the prices are. Any word on that yet?

And yeah, my wife owns all Rugers and I haven't had the first problem with them. Fine firearms.

If I were in the market for a new 1911, I would get exactly what I have now. Colt Mk IV, Series 70. But then I'm a big time traditionalist.

I'd be very happy with the older model Colt. It has character.

There's nothing else like a 1911 Jerry, I'd have no complaints with a series 70. Now series 80, I'm not a fan. Call me a traditionalist too.

Yes it is yehuda, and it has an ultra light titanium firing pin that essentially does what a series 80 does without all the extra parts and that goofy looking plug on the inside of the slide.

I was just reading a forum discussing the SR1911 back when it first hit the shelves. They were $600 in 2011 and had a few bugs to work out. Fast forward to today, the price has moved up a bit and quality is top notch with no real reoccurring issues. A lot of folks are describing it as a tighter Series 70. Works for me!!

I had a Colt Gold Cup in 1967, but needed the cash worse than the gun so I sold it, one of my dumber moves! So I'm stuck with this Kimber Tactical Custom11 for now, but I did dress the ole gal up with some ivories. A friend of mine made the grips and I furnished the ivory. I read where the CMP is planning on releasing about 10,000 GI 1911's starting at $1000! Don't think I'll be interested. ::shrug:: Terry
