If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Guns & Gun Related Stuff

Post by Miller Bro's »

I would like to see some guns and the related items, such as old bullets, belts, gun powder cans, reloading equipment, etc. etc.

Here is an old powder can from Dupont

nothing real old, but a couple of things I like:

Old ammo crates, where I keep my - uh, well - ammo!
P1010885.JPG
Brand new .58 caliber, 525 grain, Minie bullets. I cast them last weekend to use in my replica 1853 Enfield.
Note the hollow base. When fired, the base expands to fit the rifling in the barrel.

Great Stuff D!

Now I get to spend a few days taking pictures of crap I haven't seen in 10 years until last night!! I dug some old junk out of the archives in the attic last night.

Too cloudy and rainy today for good pics. I'll post 'em as I get 'em. Stay tuned. LOL

Traded for this little S&W model 1 1/2 a few weeks ago. It is a single action with a spur trigger, top break revolver in .32 S&W cal. Has a 3" bbl and is very solid mechanically. The shape of the handle gives it the name "Birds Head grip". The nickle finish is about gone and both grips have a small piece missing at the bottom edge, like somebody dropped it on something hard. Limited research tells us that model was last manufactured in 1892, so the little revolver is at least 119 years old. Notice the patent dates on the top side. Treefarmer

45-70 stuff. the ones with the smaller bullets are 45-70-405 loads. The Cavalry used them in the carbines as the recoil was less. The two on the right are 45-70-500. The last number denotes the weight of the bullet. Those were used in the rifles by the infantry.
Image

Headstamps. The zinc washed one was made in April of 1897. Primers are dead in all of 'em.
Image

Stuff from the 30's. ( except for the plastic hulled 12ga stuff)
Image
Inside primed 45-70 empty I found on the prairie up in Wyoming. Looks a like a rimfire at first glance. Grooves in the side held the internal primer in place
Image

Firing pin strike. I figure it was fired from a trap door. As it is a 45-70, it probably dates from the early 1880's.
