Looks like a tree that fell over long ago, exposing the root ball. Rain and wind have removed the dirt and the roots have aged and been worn smooth.

I guess we both do, she does most of the planting , I do just about all the mainteance, but it's a mutual love of growing things. We are trying to cut back as the work is getting to be a little much.

Spruce Flats Bog.. A rare high-elevation, 28 acre bog, formed in a mountaintop depression 2,720 above sea level.. We hike all around this area.. Neat place!! John

Beautiful scenery on top of a mountain. What is the red colored stuff in some of the pictures? 4th picture shows it pretty close, bloom or leaves?
