I just took the time to look at the histories of both Griswold and Lodge companies. Griswold from Pennslyania, ran from 1865-1957 before being bought out and combined with Wagner, etc.. Lodge began in Tennessee in 1896 and is still controlled by the Lodge family according to online info.
We have a bunch of cast iron but only regularly use 2 pieces, a no name square skillet, 10" X 10" and a bigger, 12" Lodge round skillet. Couldn't cook without them according to Miss Joy!

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I love cast iron cookware. I have my grandmother's, my mother's and what I have accumulated.
This is what "usually" is thought of as a "spider", also called a "camp skillet" as the tripod legs allow easier use in a coal bed. but I have seen the term "spider" applied to similar "non-legged" skillets.

I googled GRISWOLD SPIDER and it showed pictures of the GRISWOLD name in a circle of what looks spider web. Perhaps that is where the term came from?

That spider is 12 x 4-1/4. The handle is about 10 inches long.
Most of the camp skillets are either 11 or 12 inches across. I've seen some as small as 3 inches. The only practical use for one that small that I can come up with is melting lead for pouring into musket ball molds in camp.

Thanks Z, of course it's a good practical size. A great design all the way around.

If you were asking if that half dollar was circulated here, it was.

I cut this tree back all the way to the trunk about two months ago. The light green branches on the end have come out in the last week.

Greg, that looks like what we commonly call a Mimosa tree, very invasive, beautiful pink blooms that draw Humming Birds.

Just a note on the hummingbirds.....
Anyone in Texas south of IH10 that has a working hummingbird feeder should put it out if they can. Hummingbird winter migration to Mexico has started and the plants they usually feed on have been stripped of blooms by Harvey.

Here is a few pictures that might cause you to rethink butterflies:
This year there has been 3 different outbreaks. Remove by hand and destroy.
Satsumas will be ripe around Thanksgiving.
Here is where they begin, we'll not try to kill the butterflies but the larvae is in trouble as soon as we see the evidence. : Treefarmer
Nope, it's a caterpillar, called an Orange Dog.
They keep growing:
They soon look like a gray spot on a branch:
Enough Orange Dogs will destroy a young Satsuma tree's chance to produce fruit. This year there has been 3 different outbreaks. Remove by hand and destroy.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
Interesting photos of hummers and butterflies! The hummingbirds we have at our place don't share like those you have bighomer. Ours are territorial - they fight over the feeders, but it's fun to watch.
A while back we had a lot of tree pictures in this thread. I mentioned that I also have a lot of interesting vines growing in creek bottoms here. These climb into the canopies of trees. In April when the supplejack is in bloom you can hear the buzz of feeding honeybees from a hundred yards or more away. Birds love the ripe fruit of both plants.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
Ken its the same here, but whats funny is there is two feeders they share and five that has a dominate bird and they fight like the devil. The two feeder of course get empty about three or four times a day, I fool'em by swapping the ones out that are dominated, that way my juice doesn't get old. They are a riot to watch, they are some mean little buggers. The boss said the other day we were going to by the sugar in 25 lb. bags next year, I told her I couldn't handle 25lb. bags.
