Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
Speaking of puppies, I have a friend who recently traded a shotgun for a black lab pup, and he named him ruger von pupster. I found the whole thing hilarious when he told me.

I had to laugh. Justin (jdub) named his dog I gave him Remy. If you know Justin at all he beads Case blood. For for him to name his dog that was pretty cool.

Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
The first puppy we had just after I returned from Viet Nam was a black mixed breed terrier.
We named him CIDG. That's pronounced "Sidge" as in "bridge".
The C.I.D.G. I worked with in Viet Nam were The Civilian Irregular Defense Group, made up mostly of Montagnards and Cambodians. Fantastic troops, for the most part.
CIDG lived to be seventeen. He and I were out in the driveway one day. I think I was washing cars. I watched him walk around the corner of the house, heading toward the front porch and that was the last we ever saw of him. He simply vanished.

Thank buddy, i appreciate that. Sorry about your dog..zp4ja wrote:Great pets everyone. Kind like our varied interest in knives. Lots of unique critters.
Not to single one out but Justin’s post hit home for me. Beautiful dog Justin and good on you Keith. Congratulations to both my friends.
My 11 year old chocolate lab was sick a couple weeks ago. Clogged nostrils and no energy. Figured it was a respitory thing but her stomach was swollen.Jdub wrote:Here is Remington. Chocolate Lab of course. Dog came all the way from Muleshoe TX. Kieth gifted her to my kids. But she has become my dog. Best big dog I believe I have ever had. She is great with my kids which are 8-5-3. We were talking one day and we were talking how the kids need a dog. He began to tell me about this pup he had picked out of his litter and was gonna keep for himself..... well as you can see that didn’t work out like he planned. He drove the dog all the way from Muleshoe TX to Unicoi TN. Thank you kindly kieth we all appreciate her.
Basically within one week (who knows how long it was brewing), full blown cancer and internal bleeding. Too week and old for surgery or treatment. I asked doc what you do if it was your dog. I trust this doc very much. Kind of expected the answer. I loved that dog. In shock a bit. Figured her time was coming given her age but did not expect to have to put her down that day.
Lost a good friend that day.
My other dog just doesn’t understand why she is not there. Freaked out.
They say animals don’t have souls therefore cannot go to heaven. Could be misquoting that but I heard opinions on this.
Personally, I cannot believe a creature God made is not allowed in heaven. No reply required as I am not trying to start a theological discussion. Just mourning.
Miss her greatly. She was my best friend. Hope God has a spare shotgun I can borrow in heaven assuming I keep on the straight and narrow.

Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
My wife and I have had cats in the house for over 43 years and this is our latest, Sophie. As you can see, one of her main jobs is security. Just go ahead and reach your hand in there and try to take one of my knives. You will be "greeted" by a mouthful of sharp fangs. LOL Actually she is 1 1/2 years old and is very friendly, except if you happen to be a bug or other invader getting into "her" house. Then you are dealt with harshly. She patrols every corner of every room each morning and keeps a sharp eye on the neighborhood squirrels outside to prevent them from getting in. We got her from our local rescue shelter group after someone had abandoned her near a local football stadium. Most people that see her say "that racoon tail does not go with the rest of her outfit." And NO, I don't lock her in there at night!

Nice looking cat, Olde Cutler.
Our Kangal, Ahter, snapped her ACL ligament a couple of weeks ago and had to have surgery. She's home now and recuperating - with a shaved butt and a cone of shame.
The surgery was, of course, an unexpected expense. I told my wife we need to change Ahter's name to either "Christmas Bonus" or "Granite counter tops"'

Wow, I guess unexpected Christmas expense. But at least she is back on the road to recovery. It's always tough to have a sick or injured animal, and getting back to normal again is of the prime importance. Amazing what a good vet can do.Unk wrote:Nice looking cat, Olde Cutler.

Sorry for your baby... Animals can be as heartfelt as human children.
Speaking of heart felt kids... Here is my baby girl, and my other babies. (I know kids don't count as pets but I love them all equally. If my daughter can't fetch a beer... she's going to the pound!
There are only 4 of them in these picts... There are 7 of them now. plus two grandkids. 8 or 9 cats as well... I love my babies!
Edit: here are the others...

This is Lexi (her full name is "Lady Alexia Snow of Greensboro") our 11 month old lab. We had our previous lab for 15 years, and that makes you forget what a handful a lab puppy can be.
This is what happens when a leaking sprinkler head pisses Lexi off.
And this is what happens when you let your wife get your dog a halloween costume.
This was less than 24 hours after receiving a new squeaking duck toy for Xmas. Notice the severed duck head...

Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
Yes TFL, I agree. Labs are great dogs but take about 3 years to get out of the puppy phase in my experience. Like a 80 to 100 pound bull in a china closet. Well worth the break in period as they become best dogs I have met. Nothing against other dogs or others choices. Just my experience.
Here is my picked at Walmart mutt about 7 years ago. Great dog. Loyal and dependable as my shadow. Always by me. Very little training required but smart. Think he is part beagle and German Shorthair. Regardless, excellent watchdog but kinda quirky. Think he may have been abused as a puppy before I got him.
Anyway, here is his spring Mohawk from the slow process of winter hair shedding. As I said he is quirky and no matter how much love and trust I show him, he won’t let me brush or comb him. Not going to tie him down and force him.

Thought I would wake up the Pets forum.
Our German Shepard (Cheetah) loves to listen to "Oldies but Goodies" when we walk him to the lake.

Thank you quick steel.Quick Steel wrote:Love the GS breed and you have a fine example.
We adopted him from the local pound about 3 years ago.
The kennel informed us that some knucklehead deserted him near the animal shelter. No one bothered to adopt him because he was so thin and malnourished looking. He only had a couple days left before Euthanasia
He has become a well loved family member.
His understanding of the English vocabulary is outstanding. My wife speaks to him in Vietnamese and I have no idea what they talk about
So, I guess you could say that he is smarter than me, and much more handsome.

Re: SHOW US YOUR PETS!!!
I particularly favor the lighter colored shepherds such as yours. Don't know what you feed him but most of the brand dog foods, wet and dry, are crap. Ex: Gravy Train recently killed dozens of pets by knowingly permitting product to go out that had poison in it. (Phenobarbital) But most of them are stuffed with grains that dogs don't need. A dog thrives on good fat and protein. No need for any carbs but it is fine to add a few veggies.
In any event, thanks for rescuing a beautiful animal.

Thanks for the info and compliment Quick Steel.
I agree, we should be very careful and selective on dog food. My wife adds a wide variation of vegetables to his diet. He eats more veggies than me.
Also "dog snacks" contain some nasty ingredients. Especially those snack packages imported from China.

On the snacks OF: As you probably know there were several incidents of those China made snacks killing pets. But for many products the trick is this. The ingredients come in bulk from China; but if they are packaged here then a USA label can be applied.

The safest thing to do if in doubt is a phone call or email to the company and ask. Most human medications and supplements are made overseas and go out under U.S. brands. Good brands do thorough testing when the product reaches stateside.
