Thank you quick steel.
We adopted him from the local pound about 3 years ago.
The kennel informed us that some knucklehead deserted him near the animal shelter. No one bothered to adopt him because he was so thin and malnourished looking. He only had a couple days left before Euthanasia ::pray::
He has become a well loved family member.
His understanding of the English vocabulary is outstanding. My wife speaks to him in Vietnamese and I have no idea what they talk about ::paranoid::
So, I guess you could say that he is smarter than me, and much more handsome.

I particularly favor the lighter colored shepherds such as yours. Don't know what you feed him but most of the brand dog foods, wet and dry, are crap. Ex: Gravy Train recently killed dozens of pets by knowingly permitting product to go out that had poison in it. (Phenobarbital) But most of them are stuffed with grains that dogs don't need. A dog thrives on good fat and protein. No need for any carbs but it is fine to add a few veggies.

In any event, thanks for rescuing a beautiful animal.

Thanks for the info and compliment Quick Steel.
I agree, we should be very careful and selective on dog food. My wife adds a wide variation of vegetables to his diet. He eats more veggies than me.
Also "dog snacks" contain some nasty ingredients. Especially those snack packages imported from China.

On the snacks OF: As you probably know there were several incidents of those China made snacks killing pets. But for many products the trick is this. The ingredients come in bulk from China; but if they are packaged here then a USA label can be applied. :x

The safest thing to do if in doubt is a phone call or email to the company and ask. Most human medications and supplements are made overseas and go out under U.S. brands. Good brands do thorough testing when the product reaches stateside.

About a month-and-a-half ago we got a new dog at our house, her name is Zoey. She is mostly Havanese and part poodle. Smartest dog I have ever owned!
It only took about three attempts to teach her to sit before she had it down and about four attempts to teach her to shake until she had that mastered also.

When we got her she weighed 4 pounds and now she weighs 7 lbs. She is growing like a weed and is too smart for our own good!

This is our newest dog, Abby. A Greyhound/Black Lab mix. She's smart as a whip, but I'm a little worried about this new training technique, she's gettin' to be a bit of a lush. ::shrug::

My goodness they grow so quickly. Dale that one is sure a cutie!
WB, that's a fine lookin' dog. Does she show any traits from either breed, runner, swimmer?
These critters we call pets seem to work their way into our hearts and usually have full status as a family member. ::hmm:: Our yard dog, a chocolate Lab X red merle Australian Shepherd, has become a house dog, she shares the attention with the little black hearted cat killin' Dachshund. Flossie is now 8 years old, a good watch dog, a blood trailer and best of all she is Miss Joy's best friend. :)

Thanks treefarmer! Abby has the speed and unmistakable stride of a greyhound and all four feet are webbed. Should come in handy for when she trails a rabbit and finds it swimming across the creek and has to go fetch it. :D

Good lookin' dog you have there, too! She looks awful content in that second pic. ::nod::

And Dale, that little pup is just TOO cute! ::tu::

Well Garry, those cute looks can be very deceiving!
We are "camping" in an RV this week until Saturday and there are bunny rabbits all over the place and they are not afraid of people. Zoey is really showing her stubborn streak! She sees a bunny and she wants it, she is amazingly strong and actually pulled my off balance when I wasn't paying attention.
If she doesn't want to do something, like come when called, you pretty much have to go get her and bodily carry her.

She is funny, cute and sweet 80% of time; the other 20%, well, Katie bar the door!

Dan, you have a good looking GS, my favorite breed. May I make a suggestion? You might consider, perhaps already have, asking the vet for the 3 year rabies vaccination in place of the 1 year annual shot. There are valid reasons to reduce the number of vaccine shots. Many vaccines carry their immunity for years. A titer test will show if vaccines are needed. Of course rabies shots are required by law.

Thanks for the info Quick Steel.
He is on the 3 year program.
He enjoys being walked through the kennel to visit the other dogs awaiting adoption.

I am a firm believer that dogs take on the personality traits of their owners. So, if Zoey is a stubborn troublemaker, well... ::tounge::

And FYI, our pooch is a goofy fart machine...

Ditto what Phil said. 13 years was a good run for a dog of Conner's size, but if it was twice that it would still be too short. Cleo is a beauty.
