Birds - personal observations
Re: Birds - personal observations
We have a hawk who hangs out behind the shop because there is a drainage area that holds water and it picks crawfish out of it. It will sit on the roof of the cars and shell and eat them and usually leave a deposit with the remains. Here lately it has had a mate coming around so I think there may be a nest near.

I have heard that red shoulders like to hang around wet areas to eat crawdads and frogs etc.C-WADE7 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 1:25 am We have a hawk who hangs out behind the shop because there is a drainage area that holds water and it picks crawfish out of it. We have had on back there(I assume the same one) for 1.5 years or so. I started noticing the shells a waste on top of cars parked in the trade in row along the fence and then saw him/her out there and figured it out. The other side of that drainage is a hay patch and the hawk will scan over it all the time flying low just gliding and watching for a field mouse to move.

This one resides in our neighborhood, picture taken by my daughter in law. She fussed because it left a deposit on her bell.

I sure enjoy this thread. Great pics.
Saw something the other day that is unusual to me. I've only seen it once before. A duck in a tree.

I really like to see the photos you fellows post!
Nice Turkeys, Unk and Homer. And cool Bluebird shots, Sidlow.
Nice hawk, Wade. I have never seen a hawk catching crawfish: very cool info.
Womenfolk just do not understand that the great outdoors is way better than a toilet! Cool photo.

Birds just aren't hanging around the pond much these days. We're getting slightly warmer weather so maybe that will change.
I did get a picture of a handsome Robin.

Thanks Mel.
Re: Birds - personal observations
I still have lots of Waxwings. They must really love mulberries because my tree is seething with them.

Nice pictures, Mel.
We have a few Waxwings here from time to time.
I love the feathers on those birds.

Those are superb shots of the Gnatcatcher, Doglegg. I had lots of those in my garden in the autumn, but I have not seen one for a couple of months now. I like those little fellows that add movement and interest to the trees.

Those are beautiful birds Doglegg and great shots. The waxwings are very beautiful also and those are great pictures. We don’t have either species in our area. It’s hard to imagine mulberry’s ripe this early, our mulberry trees don’t fruit until around June.
Some great photos by all.
