First Cup Diner!

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Never thought about it possibly carrying a disease !!!!! I just hope that it was shot down BEFORE it phoned home. This invasion of airspace and spying on us should be taken as an act of war.

Good morning to all. I also lament the demise of good deals, thanks in large part to collecting hobbies getting exposure in TV and on the Internet.

We're currently at 40 degrees, and should get to 44 before dropping to 26. That's practically tropical weather for Michigan in February. Today will be another day with nothing on the plate (after I hauled a bunch of packages up the stairs yesterday). Y'all have a great day!

I'm just wrapping up a cup of Volcanica coffee and reading the Epoch Times. I had plans to start the restoration of the second of two fifty plus year old jackstands my dad passed along to me a month ago, but a little rain puts a wrinkle in that plan for now.

Regarding the Chinese balloon, what I can't fathom is that it was ever allowed to cross into US airspace in the first place. What benefit was gained by taking it out as it was leaving?

Good morning. I'm off to work. I had it in my head last week that my pre-op was today, but the clinic emailed me to remind me of the "Wednesday" appt. I checked my notes and they are right. I sure seem to get my days mixed up lately. Just too much on my mind I guess, and I'm old. The temperature is staying around the 15-degree mark and lots of people aren't even wearing jackets unless they are going to be outside for any length of time. At church, some just leave them in their cars instead of wearing them just to walk to the door. If we weren't still taping drywall, we'd be hitting the metal on the roof or siding while it's nicer out. Have a great week.____Dave

Good Mornin',Folks.
Started my morning in the shooting house this morning. What a great morning to watch! I spotted the 1st deer at 6am and for 2 hours had deer in front of me. A spike kept things going, he ran the does and yearlings around and around. I couldn't keep count but there were at least 8 other deer besides the "wannabe".
Miss Joy poured me a cup when I walked in the door. She's a sweetheart! Our temperature was about 40 degrees with clear skies and no wind this morning. Need to get a Birthday knife in the mail as grandson #2 is turning 17 on the 10th. :)
Y'all have a great day!

Good Morning Everyone!
Heading out in a bit to return a Kabar that I cleaned up for a friend. He's the one that has a booth
in an antique shop and I get knives from him every now and then. I've posted a lot of my wood
burning art over on the Wood Burning thread and on my website if you have time to look at them.
Now that it's warming up a bit I've got to get back out in the garage and work on rehandling two
knives I have. Hope everyone has a blessed day and be safe.... :D

Greetings everyone. 39 going into the fifties today with plenty of sunshine. Expecting this to persevere thru the week.

Slept intermittently but at good length so I would rate the night a B-.

Learned that one of the very poorest counties in the US is in the mountains of KY, the Appalachia region. Interestingly, in almost every country in the world mountain people are the poorest of their society.

Hope your day and week will be good for you.

Morning friends, sitting outside enjoying the mild weather and a cup of coffee ☕. 53-67 partly cloudy and breezy. Not much happening here today. Couple domestic chores with a lot pondering and piddling around. :D Have a knife out for delivery 🚚. ::ds:: Happy trails!

Do you have any thoughts on why the Mountain People of countries are usually the poorest, it is an interesting observation. ::nod:: ????

Cudgee, at a guess I would suppose the poverty is the result of social isolation. In some countries, the original inhabitants of a land were driven into the mountains by new arrivals. This happened with the Montanyards of Vietnam who despise the low landers and vice versa. Same in Burma and the Philippines. I am not sure why people settled in our own hard-scrabble eastern mountains. Perhaps the Appalachians reminded the first settlers of their old homes in the Scottish Highlands.

If I have some more time I may further research the issue.

I was thinking the isolation combined with no arable land, this would severely restrict the prospects of making income, then transporting whatever you have to sell. But a most interesting discussion. ::tu:: ::handshake::

Front cover of a great album. Title is “Nighthawks at the Diner”.
The attachment 830E0483-9E3C-48CC-91DD-B1CDCE6A3923.jpeg is no longer available
Great music. Song is on YouTube.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l2GfMu0JJs8

Here are the lyrics:

Nighthawks at the diner of Emma's Forty-Niner
There's a rendezvous of strangers around the coffee urn tonight
All the gypsy hacks and the insomniacs
Now the paper's been read, now the waitress said

'Eggs and sausage and a side of toast
Coffee and a roll, hash browns over easy
Chile in a bowl with burgers and fries
What kind of pie? Yeah...'

It's a graveyard charade, it's a late shift masquerade
And it's two for a quarter, dime for a dance
Woolworth's rhinestone diamond earrings and a sideways glance
Now the register rings, now the waitress sings

Eggs and sausage and a side of toast
Coffee and a roll, hash browns over easy
Chile in a bowl with burgers and fries
What kind of pie? Yeah

Now well, the classified section offers no direction
It's a cold caffeine in a nicotine cloud
Now the touch of your fingers lingers burning in my memory
I've been eighty-sixed from your scheme
Now I'm in a melodramatic nocturnal scene
Now I'm a refugee from a disconcerted affair
Now the lead pipe morning falls, now the waitress calls

'Eggs and sausage, another side of toast
Coffee and a roll, hash browns over easy
Chile in a bowl with burgers and fries
Now what kind of pie?'

À la mode if you will
Just come in and join the crowd
Had some time to kill, yeah
You see, I just come in to join the crowd
Had some time to kill
Just come in to join the crowd
Cause I had some time to kill
