New found love of slip joints
New found love of slip joints
Hi all I’m new to AAPK but not to knives, I’m james I live in Nottingham U.K. and I was sent in this direction by “Zed” I used I have a large collection of various fixed and locking knives. Since leaving the Army two years ago I have since sold all my fixed and locking knives, and found a love for slip joints and friction folders, I really love simple designs but also a nice thick tank of a knife. I’m a user not a collector , what I’m after is a nice Barlow knife single blade nice EDC blade.

Hello James I'm happy you found us. I'm sure you'll meet a lot of good folks here. I don't know how difficult it is to get a knife over there but we have quite a few stores on this site and you might be able to find a good Barlow EDC right here. Hope you decide to stay for awhile...

In addition to a single blade, could you be more specific about the EDC Barlow you're looking for?
What type of blade (clip, spear, sheepfoot, etc)?
Do you have a preferred handle material (bone, wood, stag, synthetic, etc.)?
Does size matter? (still talking about Barlows here...stay focused!)
Do you want something shiny and new with low mileage or one with some history and experience under it's belt?
How about steel...stainless or carbon?
There are a lot of AAPK members who collect Barlows, and even a few who sell them. The more details you can provide about what you have in mind, the more likely someone will have or know where you can get exactly what you want. You can also browse the AAPK stores and read the Barlow specific threads at your leisure until you find something that speaks to you. Happy hunting!

Thanks for the reply, sorry for being so vague. I would like a used knife either wood or micarta, carbon steel is preferred as not a fan of SS and would need to be <3”.
Re: New found love of slip joints
Hmmm, a nice thick tank that's less than 3". Is that closed length or blade length? The closest thing I can think of is a Great Eastern Cutlery #25 or a Northwoods Little Bay...I think they have a closed length of exactly 3". They also happen to be quite hot, i.e., expensive, at the moment (at least for the new ones...haven't seen too many used ones for sale but I'm sure they must be out there somewhere).James8372 wrote: I really love simple designs but also a nice thick tank of a knifeJames8372 wrote:and would need to be <3”

Re: New found love of slip joints
James another option is 're scaling a old Barlow that has broken scales, I like barlows with 2 blades as find the smaller blade less scary for folk, there are plenty of old barlows around but most state side so you might need help with that, making micarta is pretty easy ,I've still got some orange somewhere , happy hunting mate ,oh and I'm with you on carbon blades as like brass it ages nicely over the years
