Greetings from Southeast MIssouri

Post by woodwalker »

Wanted to say hello to my fellow knife enthusiasts. It's a pleasure to look and read these posts as I am a rookie on the knowledge of knives part! Always loved them though. First knife at 9 was a dollar store melon tester. I am 57 now and still love accumulating. I wish I knew this site existed years ago.

I too am an accumulator, but there are some honest to goodness real collectors around here that keep us accumulators well informed. You'll find this to be a very friendly site. ::tu::

Welcome Woodwalker! I've been through the far southeast Missouri cotton country many times on the way from Texas to visit my son when he lived in northwest Tennessee. Nice country. ::tu:: Looking forward to talking knives with you.

Welcome woodwalker! I'm familiar with the area around Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, New Madrid, Kennett. You might make a distinction between Southeast Missouri and the bootheel. My parents were cotton farmers in Northeast Arkansas in the mid 1900's. Rice seems to have displaced cotton as the crop of choice there.

I've had a few throwed rolls myself, both in Sikeston and across the state in Ozark. Good food but long wait, especially at the Ozark location. Too close to Branson I guess.

Ken it sure can be a long wait! I remember when ole Norman Lambert restaurant first place had about 5 tables in it. He would put his egg shells in with his coffee grounds to make the coffee taste better. The white beans with his chow mixed in was quite tasty. This was before he started throwing that first roll and got famous. Sikeston was a one horse town back then. Mid sixties. Good place to call home.
