We used to play that game of dropping knives, on the construction jobs, in the 1950 era. Each player held concealed in his right hand, a knife of his selection, held over the upturned open left hand of his chosen player, and at a given signal both players dropped their chosen trade knife into the other player's hand. The trade was final. Sometimes the knife was a complete wreck, and sometimes it might be a very valuable knife, and that happened often enough to cause great interest in the game. You never knew what to expect. I have not heard of it being played for a long time. Another great game lost, but not forgotten, in the construction trades history.
